Here's the thing guys and this is from his original post.

Not real sure if I did any harm or not, yesterday I took it to our local lake for a quick dry run. I noticed that when cruising above 3,500 RPMs the temp gauge was getting warmer than it ever has, just a hair over 175. It's never gotten above that before, and when I start feeling around afterward it seems that the manifolds are warmer than they normally are.

He didn't overheat the boat, it just started running warmer than normal. That is called a warning that something changed. Since he knew he ran without water for 15 seconds, and it ran fine before the accident, then the impeller was obviously the first place to look.

He changed the impeller and now the temp is back to normal. Doesn't that kind of tell you something ????????

Good to know Don, thanks for the replies. I am feeling better about the replacement and it's good to see why it was getting a bit warmer than usual. Of course there are always cheaper options but my engine is less than a year old with maybe 25 hours on it; to replace with a new engine would be over $5,000. It just ain't worth the risk for a $50 repair.

So out of newbie curiosity what would the conseqeunce if one of those gaskets didn't seal? I've been doing all my own work on cars for over ten years now and am pretty confident that all went well, but would a small leak even be noticeable?

On muffs, you might not notice it. The hose pressure would push water up to the pump. When in the water a slow speed or not moving, the pump would be under water and you wouldn't notice it, but as soon as you got on plane and the pump was above the water, it would suck air and you would overheat.

And now I'm even more confident in my repair, my temps were great. :D
