Re: 150hp tower not getting enough power

Lastnight I got everything back together and ran the motor. It started up fine first turn of the key. It is still leaking a little fuel out of the top carb and I noticed after there was a motor oil consistent liquid leaking out of the exhaust. What would that be? Also in this motor should there be water coming out of the exhaust while its running or should it just come out of the pee hole?

Re: 150hp tower not getting enough power

Leaking carb is caused by bad inlet needle or seat, bad float or incorrect float height adjustment.

Motor oil leaking out of exhaust indicates either a cylinder is not firing, a carb is leaking into the motor, or the fuelpump diaghram is bad.

Water should exit the gratings above the antiventilation plate and the prop, as well as the telltale. Telltales clog easily.

Thank you I have put new pump diaphragm on. It has to be a carb leaking fuel in a cylinder. I hope this weekend goes well im taking the inlaw out tomorrow.

Re: 150hp tower not getting enough power

Ok a little update and modifications are in order now for the old tower. I have gotten all of the carb issues fixed motor running stronger than ever couldn't be happier now. I have purchased a cmc manual jackplate, 21 pitch prop, whale fin, and a tach. Now since im putting the jackplate on my mind has been spinning as to how to modify the shift/throttle cables, fuel lines, steering, and hydraulics. I believe im going to drill in the front of the splash well and put the lines through there. One hole for cables, two for hydraulic trim hoses, and one for fuel. My thinking one the fuel is I have two tanks. Can I Y the 2 hoses together and put a valve to switch tanks and only use only primer bulb and one line going to the motor? Now I have to pull one hose off and put another on and prime the bulb to get fuel I would like to be able to do it on the fly and less hassle.

Don't put a whale tail on a Checkmate. That is an offense to the spirit of that speedboat. I can't believe you need it with that power...

I doubt it will do anything but rob high speed performance, or if you set it not to do that, it won't do anything at all. You can connect the two tanks together with a Y valve, w/o a problem. You have 18 g fuel at least?

I agree 100% The whale tale is a POS for your setup. That boat should jump on a plane in seconds,NO WHALE TAIL on a Tower, the Gods will forever hassle you with bad Karma if they see that bolted on your plate.

The way its going to be set up it should fly out of the water with itthen with the jackplate be out of the water preventing any drag its also a the new model very slick not like the old ones I will take pictures tomorrow when the jackplate gets here.

As was said, the whaletail will offend the speedboat gods, and me, as well. Speedboats, especially 16 footers with 150HP don't need 'em... Why not just trick out a Ford Pinto, while you are at it.

You are right though. Get that prop 3 inches under the pad and the tail won't be in the water when you are on plane.

That was my thoughts. Have my cake and eat it too. Plus I might be able to go with a higher prop.

Oh god no! Maybe I should remove mine so that the outboard fashion police don't write me a ticket lol!
My tower has one and I wouldn't dream of taking it off as it absolutely works fantastic on my 15' speedboat.
Out of the hole way faster and the boat actually responds well to trimming.
Yes I took mine off once to test and quickly out it back on.
Just make sure that it is completely out of the water at planing speed.

I hope you have a water pressure gauge along with a LWP on your drive. You start sucking air and you can kiss the head goodbye.
