Sweet Red, glad to see you stopping by. I'm going to do a bit more glass friday, we'll see how the smell goes. They are only a week old at this point. I had thought sealing them up would help, but forgot to before I left this weekend.

Stick with the OV filters for sure. That is what I have been using with no complaints. When I was a few years younger I took up attempting to paint cars as a hobby, constructing my booth out of plastic sheeting and a box fan or two. It worked well, but for a respirator I did not know the difference between OV and particulate matter. It was like holding a T-shirt over your nose....I guess it proves my father right again, age and wisdom overcome youth and enthusiasm every time!

No major picture progress last weekend. To rainy to grind on Friday, so I just dorked around on some of the side stuff. Got one seal seated on the bellhousing, and then rememebered I need a 25mm external snap ring. That stopped work there.

Sunday I suited up and got the delaminations ground out, and the transitions feathered again so I can get the final stinger glass in next. Hopefully this weekend?

Re: 16' 1967 Silverline Rambler Restoration

Progress so good it hurts! Seriously, my legs are still killing me from doing all 6 stringer glasses on Saturday. It took 4 trips to the store for more rollers, a new handle because the walmart rollers wouldnt fit my lowes handle and it was 11pm, cheap walmart nitrile gloves that weren't worth the bag they were in, Lowes for new respirator cartridges, and HF for the good gloves:rolleyes:.

Got the glass cutout while I was bored Friday night, heres my soon to be floor template foam acting as a pretty good layout table!

Anyways, did the outboard 2 sections on both sides at once, and then back in that night for the two center sections. I'm done glassing friggin stringers!

Sunday was a slow day, spent the morning with my girlfriend before she went to work, and was to whipped from the glasswork to muster up the courage to grind the excess stinger glass. Instead I put the scotchbrite on the die grinder and did some cleaning. Spent about an hour on the oil pan that was thick with grime and rust. Heres the result after 3 coats of primer and 3 of Ford Blue engine enamel.

Also cleaned some flash rust off the head, spent an hour taping it, and got this (still taped:D)

Now it's on to flooring the boat, and deciding on foam, I'm leaning towards pour in, maybe like BobGlasstream did.

Feel free to comment, critique, or complain!

Allrighty, in for the pour foam! Just ordered 16 ft from uscomposites, along with some 1708 to finish the deck and side reinforcements, and some gel to patch the dings and gouges on the cap.

I'm thinking of easypoxy on the hull, the white part, and gel repairs and buffing on the cap. We'll see how that goes.

Nice work on the stringers. That's going to be one solid boat. I was thrilled with the results of Easypoxy on my project.

Thanks EZ. I sure hope she comes out half as good as many of the other resto's on here. With 3k into the pretty much obsolete motor, there is plenty of motivation to keep the hull work up to snuff.

Flipping isn't in the cards for me. I'm planning on framing it in a few stages, hold near the chines on both sides while working the keel-1st strake on both sides. Then resetting with supports near the keel to work from the previous edge, around the chine and up the sides to the rubrail.

Anyone work Easypoxy while upside down? Problems with runs?

Thanks

Easypoxy flows extrememly well. You know what that means!! RUNS! So for you I'm thinking thin coats.

EZ, thats what I was thinking. At least the upside down stuff is hard to see!

Thanks Bob, I alternate between school/work every 3 months. Should have my BSME in Sept. Work is 2 hours from the boat, and school is 1.5, so its definatly a weekend project! How I long for a workshop here close to work! Today, 72 and sunny, great for grinding my stinger excesses. Tomorrow, 80, perfect for foam. Oh well. May just have to go fishing instead!

Nice work trudd87, that boat is going to be very nice when you are done. I like the Ford blue enamel, even though it's a Chrysler.

How much hp will she have at 2.0 displacement?

Bob,
Thanks for the luck, I can see the end of the tunnel!
Fresh bluegill for dinner tonight!

Huron,
Thanks! I sure hope so!

Not sure why V/P messed with Chrysler logos...The drive is 100% V/P and the engine is Volvo too. Maybe some sort of relationship that made importing them easier?

It was rated at 120hp originally. I would be happy to get that on its own, but may be more with the overbore. I also scrapped the original carbs, putting Mikunis on that should be good for a bit more power as well. Should hit 40 without a problem swinging a 17p prop, which I am hoping is conservative.

You planning on hitting the water for the weekend?

I sure am:) The weather is supposed to be perfect, probably for you too.

Just not sure which boat we will be taking out yet. Hopefully we will have the vinyl down on the SS and take her out for a spin:D

Yep, if I can get bearings on the little boat trailer tomorrow afternoon I'll be on the water Friday, probably one of the state parks around Fenton, or back towards Lansing.

If no joy on that, It'll be somewhere with a beach, maybe up in the thumb? We'll see! Good luck on getting the SS in!

Alrighty guys, hope everyone had a good holiday! I got a nice burn and a few fish Friday, me and Rachael were on the water for about 10hrs, 3 lakes. Dinner always tastes better when you get there on your boat:)

Saturday I got the previous glasswork ground down. Sunday the fun began!

Started by making the motorwell out of 3/4 aruco leftover from the transom:
081.jpg

Used some spare 1/2" blue foam for some templates for the angle plates:
083.jpg

Then got them glassed with 1708 on the bottom:
085.jpg

PB'ed them in place. They will be tabbed/glassed once the floor is in:

Then it was time for the foam! I went with 2lb USComposites pour-in foam. I decided to just pour it in , without using Bob's method for making it removable. I figure it will still last quite awhile as long as I am a bow-up/plug-out boatowner. Went thru about 50 party cups to do it all. Doing it again I would use quart sized paper cups to lessen waste and go a bit faster.

Here it is in process, about half done:
087.jpg

And when I left it for the night, about 10pm:
089.jpg

094.jpg

Monday AM I hit it all with my new 7" rotary sander with 60grit to level and smooth. Then I filled the low spots and resanded. Here is the finished product, after a seal coat of resin rolled on:

While the seal coat of resin was on, it was floor time! Finally! I had made a table of offsets Friday, so I laid it out and made a template in 1/2" blue foam.
096.jpg

This picture made me as happy as I have been in the boat yet!:D It is a good wood floor laid on the foam!
099.jpg

Once I had made both the floor sections, I sliced and routered 1/2 thru each piece for a 6" overlap. I think oop's gave me the idea to do it this way:
100.jpg

Then, once they were sure to fit, I PB'ed the joint and got to glassing! a seal coat, and then 1708 on the whole deck bottom. The top will be done once it is in the boat to tie it in. A one of the finished product. About 12' long and 4' wide in the rear section:

104.jpg

I came within 8-12oz of running out of poly! That's 7gal down, I figure 3 to go, depending on what sort of glasswork any bulkheads and seat boxes require.

Re: 16' 1967 Silverline Rambler Restoration

Next will be to trim the glass, and then install w/ PL and screws, unless I change my mind:redface: Then glass it in! I feel so much closer to being done! Long way to go, but I'm darn close to having a floatable hull at least!

I am going to try to save the gel on the hull. I have a quart of gel and tint to match the cap well. Way more than I need, but oh well. The hull will get buffed to ID all the gouges, and then repaired in the traditional fashion. Nothing unusual, roller damage, a few gouges, and a few spider cracks. I feel that keeping the gel will be the most durable option, as well as the most economical.

Thanks everyone for the input and knowledge! I hope your projects are going well!

Wow slow down and take a break once in a while:eek::D

Nice work, she's really starting to take shape. The deck looks like you measured twice...nice clean fit.

Where are you at exactly? I'm just north of Lansing in DeWitt township. Just far enough north to be away from all the chaos;)

Keep up the good work and she will be floating before you know it!
