Well that is some good forward motion there buddy!:D

Hey, you glassen your deck?

I've decided that I'm gunna. The extra time and expense seems worth it in my book.

I believe I will Jason. I used the Arauco plywood (1/2") on the deck. I am going to build an aluminum skeleton for braces but I want it STRONG so I will go the extra mile. I am thinking Nautilex (?) vinyl too.

Yah some glass over that 1/2" would probably be a good move. I also was thinking that I'd put some extra alum angle sub deck, we'll see how that shakes out.

I'll be going paint on my deck for sure. Vinyl would be sweet but for me I need to work around seat boxes which would complicate things. If I had a straight on deck bow to stern I'd prolly go vinyl.

Rock on!

Great job so far Fsh, that's quite the line of of power tools on the gunwal in the photo. I like fixing up old boats as it is a real eazy excuse for adding to the tool collection.

If you fiberglass it and use marine vinyl, that deck will outlive you.

Sweet a air rivet tool:D I want one of those. My dang Ace hardware hand tool keeps getting mandrels stuck inside the works.

Cutting the bow piece right the first time is nothing to joke about. I have not seen it happen yet to my knowledge.:p

I love how my deck turned out with resin and nautolex, using actual glass mat with epoxy resin would be even better. Nice work!

Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

Ok fshnho; just read your restore-post on the SS. I (we) need pix of your belly tank. I?ll show you better pix of mine if you show me pix of yours; I know. That don?t sound even remotely right; LOL. Off topic; BUT, all my mothers family is from Virginia. Spent some of my best days on the James River fishing for blue cats. In any event; let?s see some pics of your belly tank. I am undecided at this point as to placement of my 28 gallon belly tank. It fits like a glove, and I will still be able to add the lateral support for added hull/floor strength (Im 6'4 275# +wife +add the weight of all the fish i am gonna be hullin, and ,well you get the picture) . I am going to put a hatch over the tank; So (IF) there are ever problems with the tank, I wont have to pull the floor to get to the tank. Are there any placement/layout dimensions for a belly tank in an 18? SS hull? I am sure someone has done this before that could offer advice on this subject, (ANYONE OUT THERE). At any rate, great restore thread on a great boat. Thank you.

Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

I cut the front seating area close to the hull. I can splice it back together easily with rivets after the floor is done.

I had to measure and mark for the front piece as all my old deck was wasted. I thought I got it on the first try!

If you look close you will see the deck is above the stringers by a couple inches. I guess I need to trim it some more.

If you mean the scallops on the outer edges of the deck boards?..... For clearance on the ribs.

yep...deck is sposed to sit down a bit lower with the ribs protruding from the scalloped area.

I went looking for a pic of another deck earlier, but dang work interfered!

Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

Thanks guys. Maxx, I'll post some pics of the tank hopefully tonight. I am thinking of mounting it as far rearward as possible for the gas inlet/vent purposes. I want to keep the hoses under the splashwell.
Jj, you got your answer, they are to allow for the ribs. As the deck goes forward you need to some custom cutting to keep the deck level and it does get tricky.
I still have a ton to do on the deck and I will post pics as I poke along.

Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

Hi Guys, I had to check in because my computer hit the fritz so I have to use the work computer until I get mine (wifes) fixed. I do have all the deck cut, re-enforcing the structural floor, lining up the belly gas tank and I am really hung up on a live well. I want one bad but just don't have any idea how to do it. I want/need to have that figured out so I can have all plumbing done before the ply is attached. By the way, I am doing a 'dry-run' on the deck. I am laying everything out before the final install because I wake up in the middle of the night thinking " I need to install this". Maybe I am being too picky, but I only want to do this once. I will hopefully have pics and progress report soon. Take care Ya'll

Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

Another new day and computer is fixed. Nothing is a problem...if you have money:( Anyway, iI bought another tank today and not sure if it will fit, Actually I bought a belly tank (20 gallon?) and a trim ring for a rod locker for $20.00. Didn't see where I could go wrong as if I can't use the tank, one of you guys might. I've been promising pics but my life has been nuts lately so bear with me. I would like to say I may have some pics tomorrow. I don't have a solution for a live well that I like, so I may have to go with the big cooler:mad:

Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

Sorry about the repeat posting, but I forgot. I've been looking around, and not meaning to for Starcraft boats. I have seen a Starchief or Islander in one persons back yard...not used. I have seen another such boat in a different area..not used. And I have seen a 14' or 16' Starcraft boat set up for bass fishing in another area. Darn if I aint tempted to stop and ask about them. I don't need or have room for any more boats but.............DARN if I wouldn't mind a boat like Jas. OB of coarse..(don't tell him)
This is just from my daily driving/riding around. God could I get myself in trouble with SWMBO.

Dude, who doesn't look around for another Starcraft boat?

Yah, I am pretty sure you need another one.

You should put it on your Christmas list, post it on the fridge, and see what happens!:D:D

Thanks Guys. I'm still here and working on the boat but very slowly. I have been busy with family and work and can't seem to find the time to devote to the boat. I promised myself to get a lot done over Christmas break since I have supplies lying around. She will get done before spring.
