Good work. And a great solution to fixing the bajillion holes these boats seem to have in the gunwales.

BTW I don't know about you, but when I buy a box of rivets they last about 1/100th of the amount of time I thought they would.

Looking good there, I think you can get started on drilling holes in the gunwales for rod holders and other accessories now:facepalm::p:D

That bow area needs some work on my boat, if it's no trouble can you take it all apart and rebuild it(w/ photos) so we can see how it's done? :D

Keep up the good work and she will be finished by April.

Now that the bow is straight, I finally attached the gunwale metal at the top. Now please bear with me as I couldn't help but listen to some guys at the water cooler>>

You missed out on the other cooler talk across the room ( its filled with Vodka though :) ) .

YD" Hear that Dale re did his top gunwales?
Oops Yeah, He is an idiot. Why go through all that work?
YD Tinny guys are all screwed up..gotta love glass..
Ondarvr Yes..but depending on the humidity of construction and given the right conditions ?
cadwelder Couldnt this have allready been done with glass?
Woodonglass I currently have 5 searchbots looking that very question up ( but I know that It can be done out of MDO/HDO for sure.
YD Hmm.. Just use MG ..gelcoat it and be done with it ..
EZ Man..that must be like 1k in rivets..and I still hate easy poxy ..

Just having fun :) ..

Looking very cool Fshngho .. very.. I am impressed. ( seriously ) .

YD.

Glasser guy: You know what is cool, glass boats.
Couple of other glasser guys: Yah, glass boats are really cool.

Glasser guy: Sheesh, actually, glass boat are a nightmare aren't they?
Couple of other glasser guys: Yah, glass boats are horrendous.

Glasser guy: I am kinda itchy.
Couple of other glasser guys: Yah, no joke my respirator is all clogged up with that itchy glass stuff.

Glasser guy: Gosh, those aluminum boats are sure awesome.
Couple of other glasser guys: Yah, those guys are really smart for going that route.

Glasser guy: Hey, you guys want to go do some grinding? I got like 80 more hours to do before I can move on to my next grinding project.
Couple of other glasser guys: Yah, that's cool.

Now that there is funny. I know EZ would only say it out of respect (and truth). Hey, I've been called worse.;) I have gone the glass route, rebuilt a whole glasstream boat once. Separated the hull from the top, new stringers, etc. That is why I have a tinny now.:D I really didn't care for the itching, grinding, and resin everywhere.
HA & EZ, I could re do the bow area, but just for ya'll if ya want, but please don't want...ok? To say the least I was not happy the pics didn't come out, I should have double checked before I covered it up.
Thanks for the input gents, and the cudo's. (and the laughs...YD & Jas)

All I can say is WOW:):) Really nice job haven't caught up on the whole thread yet as I have gotten behind on my reading but amazing work!! I think I will just leave all my holes there and claim they are for aerodynamics  Remind me not to post to many pics when I get around to the painting and putting together stage as there will be a whole lot more taping and a whole lot less drilling and riveting :) I can't even convince myself that I want to remove the trim from my gunwales let alone make new ones really nice work man!!

EZ Yeah, He is an idiot. Why go through all that work?
Azlo Wonder if he made room for a bilge pump?
Alpheus Bilge pump? Heck, did he paint it green?
CBK Paint it green? What i want to know is where are the lights?
EZ Doesn't matter.. he is still an idiot.
HAMay be an idiot, but he likes to fish...
Jas Must have cost some money...how may rivets did he use anyway?
Thanks for the input guys. More to come this weekend I hope. Have a great one my friends.;)

Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

Aww C'mon Gents, I am pushing the 1k mark on rivets now.
Sorry 'bout the lack of posting & pics but life never ends.....I hope:rolleyes:
Ok, I have been working and do have some pics but I want to post them when I have finished the topside. I wanted to post to tell EVERYONE that may be following my post ( heaven forbid) that I made a major BOO BOO. If anyone had noticed, I replaced my top gunwales. Well it would be made obvious to me that all the drilling and sanding and such would put more trash and debris into the interior of the boat. That means I have to remove the deck, floatation, etc and clean everything out before I can permanantly attach the floor and paint it. Guys, do not do this as I am not happy. I would guess to do all the exterior work first and then attack the interior. Lesson learned.

Whaaaaatttt???? No way! Did you already have it riveted down? I don't quite remember if it was already perminently installed?

I hate doing things twice, although, I do it from time to time. It bugs me too!
