I did the free rental at Autozone. It had a flexible hose and adapters and I was able to screw it into my bottom cylinder. The Mercs are tough in regards to the bottom plug in the inline motors.

I was looking over the 115 parts motor and it seems to be in good shape. It is missing the carbs and the brackets that hold the starter on. I have an extra set of carbs and I found a cheap set of starter brackets im picking up tomorrow. It even has the upgraded cdi internal harness. Im hoping I can get everything hooked up and see if its good or not.

I went and picked up the brackets for the starter today. This guy had 38 complete outboard motors hanging on a rail outside as well as a ton of parts. He also had 20an some boats outside.

He also had an 18' starcraft offshore he is restoring. It is absolutely amazing. He had the entire boat powdercoated as well as the trailer. He said he will have about 45k in it when he is done. I would of snapped some pics but it was pretty dark in his shed and they wouldnt of turned out very well.

tell him he could offset the cost of his resto by selling copies of his materials and labor list, so we can show it to our respective Admirals to prove that we're not really all that crazy, in the larger scheme of things, for plowing this much $ into old tin boats.

Yeah, that guy is nuts. He completely avoids plywood for decking. He will only use starboard which is about $300 a sheet. His quoted words to me were "you guys dont know how to correctly do a boat floor". That kinda ticked me off because all of us here on iboats go above and beyond to do some good floors.

If building a "floor" out of starboard is the only correct way, I'm only too happy to be wrong!

Yup, sealed ply for my "deck" and my budget.

agreed! for the $ he's spending on Starboard, he could have done decks in plate aluminum and had em REALLY last forever.

me, i'm happy with the fact that my deck will likely outlast my 54 year old carcass

You just had to go there.... he uses plywood because theres " no other option " he only uses marine grade because " nothing else will last" he does seal the transom with epoxy.....

Powdercoated the aluminum hull? Whatever for? Bragging rights when he trailer's it to the ramp?
Is it even really a good choice for a semi-rigid aluminum hull? And doesn't melted powdercoat 'beads' mean it's now a glasser? :D :faint2:

Clearly he's got too much money, maybe you should ask him to PAY you to haul off a trailerless hull taking up yard space. Don't want any derelict boats anywhere near his bright & shiny $45K boat. Doesn't all that powdercoat & starboard make it crazy HEAVY too....

Why didn't he weld in a 1 1/2" aluminum transom. Then he wouldn't have any of that nasty wood in his plasticized tinny. I bet he would throw you out on your ear if you offered $10K for it, which is still way to much.

The powdercoat is nice but any edges on it had some chipping already. If any moisture gets under the powdercoat (which it will) it will start coming off in large sheets.

He told me he sent pics of it to the execs. at starcraft. He said they were offering him 6 digit numbers for it but he would get to keep it untill he dies. After that it would go to starcraft. I dont believe that story though. This guy is kind of a nutjob.

The guy's right, BN. I sent pics of my beat up survivor to SC. They were so impressed that it still floated and offered to trade me even up for a 2013 Limited IO 2321 RE I/O Cuddy, almost a $50K boat. I turned the offer down cuz I don't want a glasser. BTW - I have this bridge............. ;)

He's still working on her and no splash yet? And chipped? I have a feeling the power coat may end looking like EZs bottom. Not that bottom, the Easypoxy bottom.

Could the offer to the guy been six of these digits?

my apologies JB! if you need a keyboard for a Lenovo 570, I have an extra (after the Admiral dumped a can of sprite on ours which sprung back-to-life after a few days of drying )
