1954 10HP Johnson crank question

I'm working on this 1954 QD-15 10hp Johnson and wondered about an O ring on the crankshaft. If you look at the attached diagram, the O ring is part number 7. Is that supposed to go around the bearing or between the bearing and the seal? I ask because it was around the bearing when I took it apart. I used the part number that was in the parts diagram, 302035, and ordered another but it was too small and will not fit onto the bearing. Any thoughts on this?

#7 goes around the bearing. Can't see or replace it unless the crankcase is split open.

It appears from the diagram that the o-ring (7) sets in the groove in the middle of the bearing (8). It probably has to stretch A LITTLE to fit snug.

I do not believe the o-ring fits in a groove on the bearing !!----Fits in a groove on the block.

The part number for that O ring I got off the parts diagram and got the part off ebay. I've attached a picture of the two Orings. The one on the left is the one that came off the bearing. The one on the right is the new one I received using that part number. The new one is smaller and I do not think it will stretch onto that bearing but I can try it.

Attached also is a picture of the crank shaft as I found it. Why is there no O ring on the top of the shaft? Not needed?

Stop.-----Get the correct o-ring.----It should slide easily onto the bearing.----No o-ring needed on the top bearing.---You are replacing the o-ring inside the carbon ring ( mechanical seal ) I hope ?----Make sure you get the bearings seated on the dowel pins.

Maybe the ebay part number was incorrect.

This is weird and I think it may be incorrect but your part number comes up as "impeller spacer"

This particular o-ring is used in many applications including motors in 2011 and even newer.----I should look this # up in an " old time paper " parts book.

I did replace that carbon ring and the O ring that goes inside it. That part number matched up and fits.

I saw that picture labeled impellar spacer on marine.com too and it added to my confusion. I do appreciate the help if someone knows the correct part number for that O ring.

302035 (0302035) is the correct part number for that o-ring. The same o-ring is used on the impeller housing spacer on various motors, explaining the description.

Bottom line is, the e-bay seller sent you the wrong o-ring, improperly labeled 302035.
