Hey folks, my names Johnny and this is my first post here. My uncle passed away 3 years ago and left his old 72' polar_kraft jon boat with a 1956 bucccaneer to my dad(the 56 buccaneer's were the same as the 56 evinrudes and johnsons). Well my dad never moved it from the spot he parked it in his yard and so he passed it on to me a couple months ago to resurrect. I put lots of hours into the boat and trailer getting them right and have of lately been trying to figure out the OBM. Uncle told me when I visited him in hospice that he just had the lower end gone through and any repairs made that were needed and that it ran good. well I have taken her out twice and she just doesn't run right. I poped the top and it has new coils, cond's, points. I did have to re-set the points to .20, they were a little closer. the coils looked like they were in there straight but (question)- do they need to be positioned some how for proper timing?
-also- what is the proper fuel ratio when using 2 cycle oil? the old specs say 24:1 when using sae 30 weight
---I think I need to clean the carburator most likely, it runs pretty good in neutral but spits and bogs and knocks in gear.
I have no experience with OBM besides what I have been reading lately on the internet so I hope I am on the right track but I just wanted to pick the brains of some folks with more experience- thanks for any input.
