I had excellent water flow when it was running, so it's not the impeller. I also ordered new spark plug wires.

No, but you should still replace it. It is made of rubber and only has a serviceable lifespan of 1-5 years. Cost is about $20. If its fails while running it could plug the water passages inside the powerhead and cause an overheat.

even though it may be fine. the impeller might lose a leg or two and clog up ur passages then u might be in trouble. u might be able to catch it before it overheats but i mean it might be hard to unclog those passages

impeller will keep u from losing the whole package i find that more valuable then coils:D

I ordered 2 impellers, one to replace the existing one now, and one spare.

u dont need to order two:confused:

were just stressing the point that impeller is an important part. coils also well if u wanna get it running;) but i hope u dont lose it :D and have to order another one u generally want to replace them every 2 years?

Waiting on parts still. Did a compression test, though not sure of the validity of the tester. Couldn't get it to work at all at first, then got 75 lbs on each cylinder. Engine was cold, if that matters. Not too worried about PSI, but glad they tested identical.

Anyone know the torque specs for when I reattach my flywheel?

Compression, ignition, fuel, test for each one. If you don't won't to do that, I'll guess with you all day.

Torque Spec for my 1960 10 HP was about 40, IIRC.

he's right a motor needs three things to run. compression, fuel and spark all at the right time. check all three and you will have a good running motor.

I have new points, condensers, coils, spark plugs and wires, and carb re build kit to install. As well as new impeller and lower end seal kit. If I do it right, it should run...fingers crossed....

Actually, with all that you will have a good "starting" motor. To have a good running motor, you need one more thing which is NEVER mentioned; temperature regulation. I learned that lesson the hard way ;)

I thought that's what the impellers are for...maybe I'll run some aspirin though it...;)
