Are you sure that coil was not hooked up to 12 volts ?---Have never seen a coil do that with normal operation.---When those carburetors run out of fuel the engine usually revs up just before it quits.--Try using the manual pump and see what it does.
Pumping the fuel bulb keeps the engine running just fine. When i let go it runs for a minute or so and loses fuel and dies. Do i possible have a hose backwards?
or something mixed up?
Brand new fuel lines on engine and to tank and new fuel pump. Runs great just have to keep it primed!
Really appreciate the reply!! Im going to flip the pump around and see if that's the problem. It's got to be the pump, pretty much ruled everything else out.
I have seen some up side down and people saying they had little issues but maybe this pump does not like it.
did not want to read 100 threads... lets start over
1- did you do a air blow test air should flow from the IN to the OUT port of the pump none from OUT to IN
2- the pump works on a vacum pulse from the crank case so the back side of the pump must be sealed with its gasket
3- remove the pump... see if you feel a vacum pulse from the pulse port hole on the side of the engine... the pump needs it !! put your finger on the port and have somebody pull crank the engine or use the starter if you have one . you should feel the vacum pulses
4- with the pump primed with the bulb disconnect the fuel line at the carb and feed the hose in a tomato can crank the engine with the starter and see if gas flows out ... if it doesn't the pump is defective (brand new or not)
sorry if I am repeating previous suggestions....start a new thread.... "defective pump" now that you have it narrowed down
btw... you did drill out a vacum pulse port into the bypass cover... to line up with the back center of the fuel pump pulse port didn't you ?
I made sure the gasket was not blocking the hole at all, and reinstalled it. Still squeezing! Unfortunately I am still working on the electric start. My arm is killing me from pulling this beat for 2days.
I'll try your step 4 when a friend drops by today. Thanks a million Crosbyman!
