hey scott, thanks a lot for your help, but what about those two springs by the spark plugs, they are connected to the top of the engine and they seem like they can be adjusted, we thought they were the valves and needed adjustment but then again... thanks

Those springs are for the compression release valves. They only need adjustment if they are not pushing in when you pull the starter.

From EVINRUDE FACTORY Service manual:<br>"Clearance between end of compression relief valve stem and adjusting screw should be .018 to .025, with COLD MOTOR" adjust as needed and retighten lock nut, "recheck after tightening lock nut"

Hi KornKid,<br /> I have NEVER had to mess around with those compression relief valves in all the 35s I've ever worked on. Never had a problem with them. Being a big guy myself, I have actually disconnected them on the 35s I've kept for my own use - one less thing to present a problem. I had one motor with a recoil that would bind sometimes and the compression reliefs would be stuck open. Beyond that one motor, and actually only two instances, I've never had a problem with those reliefs...<br />- Scott
