some use fuel line sliced down the middle and glue on. "Goop" works pretty good

I did find this stuff on Amazon, which looks pretty similar to the seal he had in the picture on his website. Car Door Seal

car door seal ... read the fine print as looks can be deceiving they come in various heights and width.

I have ordered some that was to small.

it grips the edge pretty good but a dab of glue can't hurt .

I got all the new seals in the gear case and I got it back together. It shifts and operates like it should. I don't have any special tools for leaktesting it, is there any way I can do that DIY? Other than putting it in a bucket of water then taking it out and seeing if there's water inside after a few hours, which I really don't want to do because then I'll have to dry everything again.

If you have the pump for the oil you could adapt that to work with a bike pump. If you don’t have a way to hook up a gauge drop it in water and look for bubbles. It only needs like 10 psi so don’t over do it with a compressor.

Yeah, I just looked and I need to get one. I never knew you were supposed to fill up the gearcase from the bottom!

You always fill from bottom till it comes out the top.----On more than one occasion folks came to the shop with burnt gears / bearings.-----They made the mistake on a simple job.

I made a tool for pressure testing the gearcase. I drilled down the center of a bolt, clamped a piece of hose to it and clamped a pressure fitting to the other end of the hose. I hooked it to the air compressor set at 10 psi, and like I feared the gearcase leaks. It's at the front where the piece that holds the seal and the two halves of the gearcase come together. I took it back apart and put some RTV. It's drying right now, but I think it'll work.

I’m impressed with your problem solving man. There aren’t many guys your age any more that will do this. It seam if it can’t be fix with a keyboard it get tossed and replaced.
