All,

Since I have gotten settled into the Pacific Northwest now I have purchased a new project boat

Hopefully the third time is the charm as I have had a few projects that have gone stagnant due to job security issues

I have now purchased a 1959 Crestliner Flying Crest that needs some work

I will be bringing her home tomorrow as I need to purchase some trailer tires

I plan on diving into her on Sunday

I should be able to get started on the thear down today, been tied up doing thing around the wife for the last week

The decks seem solid but will be replacing anyway

had a couple of questions for the members

What adhesive would you recommend to laminate ply for the transom?

Would you recommend painting the aluminum below the deck and if so what type of paint?

I will post picturs as they become available

PL Premium works great for laminating your transom layers. No need to paint under the deck. If you have the deck out, a coat of Gluvit on all the rivets and seams will go a long way towards fixing and preventing leaks.

what is the best way to fill a bunch of screw holes in aluminum

PO had fishing rod holder holders and drink holders in the boat and I want to fill all the holes prior to painting

also looking for the original style speckled paint

any thoughts?

Sorry for the lack pf pictures, seems that during our move from NH to WA the movers packed everything but my USB cable for the digital camera

I am currently in the process of stripping the boat, so far the decking seems solid but out with the old and in with new

This is my firsy Tinny so I am sure I will be asking lots of questions

I think I found the speckled paint for the interior, looks like Zolatone is what I need

As soon as I get her stripped I will be sealing the hull with gluvit

gonna be a lot of fun

Found the USB adapter for my digital this morning
here are a few shots of what little I got accomplished
Seems I am spending more time getting all the wasps and yellow jackets out of their current home

will be doing some more clean up this evening and hopefully get some of the decking up to see what is below

I got some of the decking up, looks like someone has replaced it before as it is not rotted but old and cracked
Found a ton of the craft grade styrofoam under the deck. It is dry but dirty

Was wondering your thoughts on using this again, I know I have seen people using the pink and blue foam from Lowes/HD but have not seen anyone using the more coarse foam such as this

Also have found more wasp and yellow jacket nests than I have ever seen
Really glad I bug bombed the boat prior to removing some of the interior

Don't know if the old styrofoam is open or closed cell foam. Closed cell is preferred, since it won't readily soak up and hold water. You're making good progress.

not really sure, but it is the similar to the cheap foam you can buy at Michaels stores. better yet, it is like the cheap foam you get when you buy any electronics device

very coarse

I am guessing my best bet is to replace it with the Pink foam from Lowes

Got a little more torn out, probably have to wait until Monday to get any more time on the boat

was wondering if anybody had suggestions on some sort of paint to match the effect of Zolatone for the boat interior. I really do not have the equipment here to spray the boat

Looks like I will be able to put some more time into the boat

The summer here in SE Wa state is a bit hotter than I am used to

multiple days of 100 degree heat and blazing hot sun have made working on the boat outdoors a bit uncomfortable for me

One thing I can say about the area is that the ability to watch the unlimited hydros was quite the experience. What a rush watching boats that can go 200 mph

Looking at ordering the resin and cloth for the transom repair and decking replacement

any suggestions regaring the cloth I need to order for the transom?
The transom appears to about 3/4 inch, should not have to laminate ply for the transom. Looking to make it as strong as possible while ensuring it will last for quite a few years

If you want it to last Longer than you then use 5/8 ext. ply with epoxy resin and 1708 Biax cloth on Both sides. Coat the plywood first then apply the coth then give it two or three more coats of resin on both sides. It will finish out at 3/4 of an inch or maybe slightly thicker and it will be as strong as steel and impervious to water. Just make sure that anytime you make holes in it that you ALWAYS coat them with the epoxy resin to seal it back up or it will rot from the inside.

Thanks for the info, guess I will order enough 1708 to do the deck while I am at it

looks like the cool spell was short lived around here, back to triple digits this weekend

At least I can get the supllies ordered as I will also be ordering Gluvit

hope to get some work accomplished soon as I really need her ready to splash next spring (at the latest)

I may have just scored a windshield for the boat

found a listing for a 65x20 windshield with a aluminum frame near my brother in laws house

if all goes well my biggest concern will be taken care of

Probably need a little modification, but should be a really close fit

Got my fingers crossed that I can get this deal closed

My BIL picked up the windshield for me

said it was in really good shape, no scratches or pits in the glass
Also has a bottom seal and the corner mounting brackets

He rated it a 8 out of 10 and he is really particular, gotta love Craiglist sometimes

Really happy as it only cost me $30 and a steak dinner for my BIL

GREAT SCORE on the Windshield. Those things are HARD to come buy. Give your BIL a Beer Too!!!! Sounds like your making progress. The Heat wave in Oklahoma has put a HALT to my project so I'm hoping by the end of the month the heat will break and I can get back on her.
All these guys workin on their boats is drivin me nutts.
