Well while waiting for parts for other projects. I have tinkered with the boat over the last 2 days for a little while. have most everything removed from the boat and today started prying on the back stringers and the caps popped right off. Looks like plywood, but dimensions looks like a 2x4 will work good as a replacement.

Also trying to figure out deck height, but really need to decide on what type of seating i want. If i do the lounge seats looks like deck needs to about here(green line). Open for seat suggestions, thinking either the lounge seats or front swivels and back bench currently.

Interesting seating

Indeed some very interesting seating arrangements! The automotive seats, not so much. I think that idea would work well with that sliding hard top.

If you are taking votes, my chice would be the white on grey/yellow boat!!!! really like that look!!! The others are nice too, but they both would cost a fortune in cash to have made or a ton of hours if you do them your self.

not really taking votes but opinions are welcome on what i posted. if anyone sees something else interesting that you think would look good in this boat post it up.
On to the cost though, mostly likely i would put something cheap in it first and figure out what works for me and build from there. back to back lounge seats, http://www.deckmate.com/products/back-to-back-boat-seats-pls101 will mostly likely be the first seats in it

What would you be using the talc on ... It's my understanding that it should not be used . At least anything below the water line .. Above would may be ok but not recommended...

Me, isnt is suppose to help with fiberglass itch? I will be buying some tyvek suits but with the temperature here in the summer im sure to forego one if im not going to be grinding long, mainly a just in case type of thing.

Just got done building this, still have to install the wheels. Building an O/B motor stand - Instructional

Yes, talc powder your tyvek suit, some try to use talc as a filler to make PB, which as Sam said, isn't recommended.

Just like I put it on my hands before I work on a car, I apply liquid soap like lotion to all the skin that might be exposed to the grinding dust, face, ears and neck included. I find it works better then any other method, I sweat profusely in a tyvek suit.

I will be building another stand for the 140, its not that sturdy. will be using 2x6s on the next build. this stand will work for the 1961 mercury 70 though.

Just a thought .. Looks like the upright section that the motor mounts on is to far back on the base .. I'll bet it wants to tip backwards the way it's set up now .. This is how I just built one

It puts the center of gravity further to the center of the base ...
my 175 feels good and stable ..

My stand is pretty tippy in any direction, the motor needs to be tilted all the way down though, im sure that will help some. I will try to replicate your stand.

Whats your rough dimensions?

okay not long before i should be able to really start on this boat. Is this the design i should be using to add the new floor in? I will be replacing the original stringers and then the red will be bulkheads, green stringers running all the way up. Really need suggestions, i wish i was just replacing a original floor instead of having to create a design for my first boat.

Or can i add 2x4s or 2x6s (placed on end) spaced approriately all the way down to support the plywood like this.
