Re: 1959 Glasscat Catamaran Project Underway.

Hey Cowboy (and everybody else). Sorry work was really wild this week I did not get a chance to even look at the computer. I got to work on the boat last weekend. I fiddled with the hatch and tried to put the hinges inside. I did not like how it looked with the hinges inside (there was a huge gap) and cash was a little low this week so I kept the old hinges for now. I measured and centered them better. I also painted them a hammered brass which matches the light fixture. It looks a little better. I also did another coat of stain and 2 coats of spar urethane. I mounted the hatch back on the boat and then sealed the gaps around the hatch. I bought the weather stripping but did not install it yet until stain dried. (I could not photograph this week because my personal photographer (dad) was out on another motorhome trip last weekend. It really must be rough being retired and able to take off for a weekend trip to Seattle for S@$&S and giggles, uh for fun. I think; I am going to be working on her tomorrow, so I hope to patch the little old screw holes in the cabin and then touch up paint the roof and around the hatch. I might have to do a little more stain around the hatch. I am going to mount the door that I built began to build last weekend also. (Then I need to stain the door). I have a friend in LA is giving me a beautiful hundred year old piece of stained glass (he called it a transom) that I am going to mount in the center of the door. It should give it a very pretty look. The only problem is going down there to pick it up. (I am in trucking after all, I told him not to send it by freight or parcel because I know how people treat freight. I do not want my beautiful piece of glass to become a beautiful million pieces). Anyways talk to you all soon.
Have a great night.

You have made some real progress in a short time Dave, the boat is looking good. As you have already discovered there is a wealth of information and help on this board, along with some real nice people. Keep up the good work, and don't bake in that hot California sun. Here are a few pictures of what I woke up to this morning.

That sparkly stuff is ice. I love Michigan, but could do without winter.

Re: 1959 Glasscat Catamaran Project Underway.

Hi everybody.
I got to work on the boat all day today? It was so nice.:D:D Thanks for your very nice words clintbeastwood (I like that handle). The motor I have is a 75 hp Rude. I have not tried to get it running yet; everybody says that it is a very, very thirsty motor also. What do you get out of your 235 (mileage? Sorry I know it is not the right nautical word). They also say that my Starflite leaves huge oil slicks in the water. Do you have these problems with your big motor?
Hey Yamikaze, glad you found my thread. You really take awesome photos (is that your garden?) I like that last purplish photo the best. :D
But what is ice? I thought that was what you put in soda to make it cool. It was hot today while out working today. I hate the heat here, but I know without a shadow of a doubt that the cold is even worse. I think it was only about 85 or 90 but it felt much warmer out on that deck.
I?ll upload a few recent shots.
C-Ya all!

I did a bunch of work on the door and roof hatch today.

I also pulled the old paneling off the forward wall and cut a new one out of new cabinet grade plywood. (Not photographed too late and dark). Oh, yah, all I had time for was to coat wood with stain only, Still need to seal with spar urethane this weekend.

Dave, Thanks for the nice comments on the photos. I post a lot of my pictures on the weather channel web site. http://iwitness.weather.com/service...n&includeUser=on&as=148597&sortType=relevance Take a look if you have some time. I am real proud of some of them. Those were flowers at the entrance of the subdivision I live in. Got up early this morning to take my son to his hockey game. 27 degrees and beautiful frost on everything, along with a thick fog coming from all the lakes that surround my subdivision. Never got over 50 today. Going to have a couple of good days this week. I will use those to store my off road truck and lawn equipment. Sorry to say I will also use some of that time to get the snowblower ready for the season.
Nice progress on the boat. You should be ready to splash her in no time. Try to stay cool!!! If I could I would be glad to share some of the cold air we have if you would send some of the warm air up here.

Cowboyup I feel for you guys who have gotten that early season snow. It is way too early for that stuff. I am sure you have a bunch of leaves still on your trees too. I hope you are not one of those who have lost power. I really shouldn't complain! Michigan really has some of the nicest weather around. We have very few natural disaster type weather in this state. Some in our country have had to deal with some real devastation over the last several years. Keep your chin up and use that snow to keep your favorite "beverage" cold tomorrow night when the trick or treaters come knocking at your door.;)

I don't want to change the thread but the trees were not ready for that storm, trees and power lines down everywhere. Its not good but weather wise it was awesome and something I will remember my whole life. We stood outside and just listened to all the crack from branches and trees. Scary but so amazing to see how the trees snapped like twigs.

Re: 1959 Glasscat Catamaran Project Underway.

Hey Guys,
As to changing the thread, I don?t think it really is all that bad, if the three of us want to talk a little on the side about flowers I think it is ok. As for the weather and snow, I think you guys are pulling my leg. I?ve seen snow in pictures. It is just a light dusting that you brush away with the back of your hand.:D All this about trees falling and branches cracking! Seriously, I could not hang with it. We complain in Cali when the weather drops to 50. In Fresno it is basically a desert I usually wear shorts all year long and we normally barbeque on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Today it was 80.
I did get to work on the boat today but I did not get very far. I am attempting to place a windshield on the top of the cabin that was on the old parts boat. It has not been easy . One of the panes of glass (also over 50 years old, literally exploded in my hands today:mad: (I don?t even know why it did it. I did not have pressure on it at all, in the end I ended up with a fairly nasty gash that ended my day early. :facepalm:It is weird in the fact that it is a frame of metal pieces that all fit together like a jigsaw puzzle with flat panes of glass on all sides.
Anyways I took my daughters trick or treating tonight so I am about to drop. I?ll talk to you all later,
John it is horrible that it never got over 50. Cowboy I am also glad that you and yours were not injured in the storm. Thanks Zopperman for stopping by.
I listen to talk radio (truck driver we are a captive audience I can only listen to the same 6 songs over and over again rarely). Anyways it is funny to listen to all of the news casters trying to say Nor?easter! They have proper English all the way up until the Nor?easter and then they sound like pirates. I keep expecting Argh afterwards. ;)
Talk to you all later

Re: 1959 Glasscat Catamaran Project Underway.

Hi just a quick note on progress. I started to install the windshield again and I am about half way done with it. I hope to finish this week. (I think I might be off work tomorrow so if so I will go out to the boat) I will load new photos (tomorrow or over the weekend). I think the windshield is going to work out It makes the boat appear much bigger. Does anybody know how to remove window tint? These glass panes are tinted from many years ago and I would like to remove.

Is it real glass or plexi?

Hi Ezmobee

Real Glass for now,
But I am probably going to change to plexi when I can find a place that sells it. Is plexi hard to cut?

any glass shop sells plexi, and they can cut it to size for you....take them the windows so they have accurate sizes.

If it's real glass I'm not sure why you'd want to change it.

A razor blade and some Goo-Gone should take care of the tinting and adhesive.

Re: 1959 Glasscat Catamaran Project Underway.

Thanks for stopping by JDA, I will check with the glass shops by my house.
As to Ezbobee?s Question I am a little concerned because one pane literally exploded in my hands. I did not have any pressure or twist to the glass and poof it was gone and my hands were sliced to ribbons. I don?t know maybe because it was so old?? I thought plexi would be better because it does not shatter. Do you think I should keep old glass or have all new glass cut? or just replace the one that went poof?
Have a great night.
