Re: 1959 Glasscat Catamaran Project Underway.

When I installed the bathroom (head?) wall frame, I found I had an added benefit; the roof (on that side) is so very much more stable, it really changes the strength on the entire starboard side of the boat. On that side I cannot depress the roof even a little. From the aft wall all the way to where the windshield is (I think a person could walk on it now) I want to build another little ?room? on the port side for the stronger roof support.
Silly question, in that little room should I build a mini-kitchen (basically a pantry for food and utensils, etc.) or should I build a ?shower? of sorts for bathing? Originally (still am) I was planning on using a Colman camp stove out on the deck to actually cook some sort of food (don?t want to commit suicide or murder my family with fumes trying to cook in the cabin).
What do you think I should do? I do need the wall support so the ?room? must be built anyway.

Hey 62 Royal Scott,
Thanks for checking in. I think that you are correct. I think I am going to make the kitchen/pantry on the port side.
I was thinking about making the restroom a ?wet bath?. I was on a few sites over the weekend that described them. I think it would work greatly since my toilet is not connected to anything and could be removed if needed.
Talk to you all later.

Re: 1959 Glasscat catamaran Project underway

Hello everybody,
I really have not made much physical progress on the boat this week because life keeps getting in the way. The semester is rapidly coming to a close at the little college I attend and I am rushing a fiendish pace to get all my projects in. We also had a wild windstorm that ravaged our part of California and that was a very wild two days. My parents had trees ripped up and a big portion of our city lost power (some do not have it back even yet). My tarps covering the boat took French leave and I need to go buy some more. I also have had the usual family obligations likeTurkeyday and Black Friday (ugh). I have still had the boat in my mind the whole time and have made plans for what to do next. Digging up resources on the web. I have been in contact with a gentleman from our Jonneyrude motor repair section and/or the electrical repair section that goes by the name willyclay. He is a very kind person and if you have an old evenrude you should talk to him. He has given me exactly the information I think I need to get the old motor running and I have been busy scheming?..er, planning on how to get the motor running. I even got a schematic now on how to wire it and from that I can see what I did wrong when I tried to wire it before.
Have a great night all:D

Re: 1959 Glasscat catamaran Project underway

Looks like you have been making some nice progress on the boat Dave. Looks good. The one sink you have should not produce a great amount of waste water. I think I would be tempted to install a smaller removable RV tank. My pop up camper has two external tanks. One for the sink and one for the shower. We can go two or three days before needing to empty the sink's five gallon tank. The shower has a 15 gallon tank on wheels that will fill up in two or three showers. As I was writing this I thought about a five gallon water tank I had for years with a removable spout on it. It would not be hard to adapt it to work with your sink. The cap has a threaded hole for the spout to fit in. You could easily attach a hose to the sink drain and run it to the cap. I just looked one up on line Colman makes them for under $20.

Dave, Just caught up on your thread. That looks absolutely great. I love the wood grains and the stained glass and the light. It almost looks old fashioned and classy :D
Great work, Can't wait to see the finished product.

Hey Yamikaze
Thanks for the link my friend. I am going to check into it (right now) it actually looks just about what I need and I really thank you. :D:I have not seen you around here lately I hope all is well with you and your family. Did you get your color scheme chosen for your project? Shoot me a PM sometime if you want.

Zopperman, Thankx for checking in and for your very nice words.:D I appreciate all the support you all have given me so far. Without you guys and gals popping in and encouraging me (and telling me when something is hare brained) I would probably have given up on this in the beginning. I mean it is unbelievable the amount of money that has gone in up to this point (and actually I have not bought any high cost items boats and motor basically free). Now I am totally hooked, and it is like an obsession, when I am not working on ?her? I am usually here learning from you all here. I really am happy with the results thus far. I am very ham handed and this is my first attempt at any sort of construction project (although I feel I am getting a little better with each part I do) maybe when I am on my 10th boat (God forbid, I ever do something like this again!) I hope to be as knowledgeable as you guys on this forum.

Dave, all is fine with my family and I. I have been spending a lot of time with my photography and such, so I have not been getting on line as much. Since I have put the boat up for the winter, I have not had as much of a reason to get onto the forum. When you are working on a project it brings up all kinds of questions that lead you to this forum or that. When I work on the truck I am on ZR2USA, when working on the motorcycle it's 650 garage.com Photography brings me to the weather channel's to post some of my pictures. Sometimes I think I have too many interests. I fear when classes start next month I won't be on line much at all except for educational research. When that happens I will be looking for any excuse to get away from the computer. Once I know what demands school will put on my time, I will look for a part time job to support one or two of the above mentioned habits. I will do my best to check in from time to time though. Keep up the good work on your boat, I am looking forward to seeing some pictures of it in the water.

Re: 1959 Glasscat catamaran Project underway

Hey Yamikaze I am glad to hear that you are getting along fine.:D Thanks for checking in.

I have not done too much either on the boat. Weather is weird, and my semester at college just ended. :D:D I hope to get a little more free time to work on the boat myself also. I had a little find today. There is a little old boat shop in one of the cities that I deliver in; so on my lunches sometimes I stop in and talk to the owner, he is an older guy who has forgotten more that I will probably ever learn. I go to him because he is very generous with his knowledge. He knows I don?t have a great deal of money (and can?t afford to pay him to actually repair anything) but he teaches me what I need to do to repair the part myself. The first time I went in and tried to buy a new set of spark plug wires (around 80 bux). He told me that I did not need to actually buy new wires from him because my wires are solid wire. At that point he took me to his ?junk? pile and found an old wire and pulled it apart to teach me how to rehab it. I thought this was very kind of him to do (my first meeting with him and he could have easily sold me the wires and collected my 80 bux).
On to today; I was in the neighborhood so I dropped in to kill time. I think that I walked out with a good bargain. He was cleaning out one of the crammed little storage rooms in his shop when he found a Seloc repair manual to my old motor. It was covered in a foot of dust and was in fairly good shape for its age. (I searched the edition printing info; it was printed in 1993, and it probably sat on that shelf the entire time!). He told me that he remembered that this manual would fit my very old motor and when I dropped in he gave it to me for free!!!! He does not work on such old motors as I have. I had to twist his arm and insist that he charge me something for it. (If he gives everything away for free than I will not have him there to advise me later, selfish I know). He told me that prices for those manuals were about 45 dollars (so I walked out with book in hand for 20 bux). I think I got a good deal still. What do you all think?
Talk to you all later.
Dave

Thankx Cowboy. How u dooin?
My wife wanted a new bedroom set so of course we needed to strip bedroom, paint, clean drapes and steam carpet for the last few days.:( I hope to get out to the boat this weekend for at least one day!!!! Thankfully the semester is over at school so I get a little reprieve for a few weeks at least. The furniture guys are supposed to be coming tonight so I am writing you from the floor of my newly cleaned and painted room. You know what? Painting the boat with that nasty Rustoleum was much more fun than painting the bedroom?.:D

She wanted a new bedroom set or a complete remodel?? I guess we can't complain to much, the women in our lives put up with our insanity (boats) pretty well most of the time.

I love the lines, thier classic 1950`s and as I was looking I thought it must have a good bit of room on the deck and cabin, I am sure you will love it.

LOL, keep her happy and she will let you do what makes you happy....of course, I prefer to tick her off...then I do what I want and she ignores me for a week...I get a lot done during that week though! JK, I am married to the best, she puts up with me and my obsessions pretty well. Your boat is looking good, I cant wait to see it finished!

Hi Monterey,

I have read through you thread. I really like the lines on that Cat. She looks like she will be a real nice stable ride when you get her splashed.

You are doing an Awesome Job on it!

I also like the way you are using readily available materials to fit it out. Pallet wood for the deck, the Transom light stained glass, your choices of wood stains, the lantern light, everything...really cool.

This is gonna be a classy boat.

Just try and keep the 'Admiral' happy and it's all good...

Best wishes to you and yours this Holiday Season.
Merry Christmas.

Re: 1959 Glasscat Catamaran Project Underway.

Thank you everybody for checking in.
I really do thank you all for the kind words. It is really what keeps me going. Our house is fairly new still, so thankfully we only had to clean instead of remodel. Walls got grungy quickly. Builder used cheap matt paint (it really absorbed every speck of dirt). So we repainted. Carpet is very light beige (a truly awful color to keep clean). We had to buy a carpet steamer when we bought the house because of it. When we painted the room we she wanted a full blown carpet cleaning (I took 6 hours on one room alone but it was worth it. As of now it looks like close to new so she is happy.)
JDA my wife is the same, and since was born and raised in Russia she can keep the ?cold war? going a very long time?.so it is usually easier to just do what she wants and then run back to the boat.
She really does not like the boat; but since I obsess about it so much; she tolerates it (and me)! I will not say graciously but she does tolerate us (LOL) She just came in and read this post and all she could say is shut up!!!LOL:facepalm:
Anyways good night all, I will work on her (the boat not wife) this weekend and have new progress and photos for you. I hope you all have wonderful Christmas and my best wishes of the season to you all.:D

Re: 1959 Glasscat Catamaran Project Underway.

Hi John,
No, I have not made much progress with the boat this month….
I am going out Sunday or Monday to work on her all day. The weather is supposed to be great (this has been a weird winter. There has almost not been any rain at all). I mean really; I wore shorts to work today (one day before New Year Eve)!
On an aside; I got all my grades for the last semester, I got straight A’s for 15 units and was told that I am going to be on the dean’s list. Not bad huh; for a truck driver from the sticks :D(I mean full time work, plus school, plus B.O.A.T. (bring out another thousand) plus wife, two teen age daughters (one driving now , a mother in law and one lazy cat. My life has been very crazy this last year.
Back to boat, I got some fiberglass supplies today and I plan to do a little work if the weather is still going to be fairly warm, also I plan to do a little work on the splash well wall (more FG), and a little more work in the bathroom (plumbing for sink) and cabinet work, build interior bulkhead walls in cabin, ……. It goes on and on. Frame wall on port (larboard) side interior cabin (which is correct? I watch a lot of very old movies and they always use latter term).
I really do not like working with the glass. I remember my last (and first experience); I made a beautiful resin rock with the majority of my supplies. Hopefully I learned a little from the last time)
I hope John, you and all you my dear friends out in “iboats-land” have a wonderful New Year.
Dave
