I still have two thru hull holes and the drive shaft hole to drill...so many steps...Stay Tuned!!

Looking at the latest pictures, it would appear that I missed a step or two. Very impressive project!

Re: 1960 Chris Craft sportsman restoration project

Thank you guys!! Some of the steps didn't warrant pics and my camera had a bad day...In summary, I've been hitting it pretty hard and am now eyeing the imfamous flip. I'm a bit nervous about that, even having no issues the first time. Thanks again for the interest!

Looking Great!!!
Sorry about not getting back sooner about the varnish in the refrigerator. I don't know about polyurethanes as I don't use them, but putting traditional tongue oil or spar varnishes in the refrigerator is an old trick. Keeping the varnish cold will help to keep it from drying quite so quickly initially which will 1) help to maintian your 'wet line' longer as you are working along, so you won't see where you stopped & started as much, and 2) allow more time for any bubbles to settle out. Years ago there was a popular marine varnish called "Callahans chiltered varnish" which actually had on the label to put it in the refregerator before use. --- Also, for final coat work, don't work out of the can; open a fresh can and pour out about 15 minutes worth of varnish into a clean cup/container (so it will stay cool), then go back and pour off more into the container. Don't work out of the can as dust & lint from the surface & brush will end up in the can.

Learn something new everyday on this site. Bob, the boat is coming along nicely! This is one of my favorite projects on iboats - looking forward to more updates.

Thanks Ned, I've never heard that about varnish before. But kind of sounds exactly like how to treat polyester resin in the heat. Is there any value to going the other way in the cold? Kept warm to flow better?

Can't wait to see the hull red & back in the upright position.

I've never sprayed varnish, but I have read that some people do warm it before spraying (I'm guessing to get it to tack off sooner to minimize runs, curtains & drools (?)).

DUDE...your telling me! I will tell you guys this...I have found some amazing products during this process. First I really like the CPES...this stuff is an awesome wood sealer. I only wish I knew about this when I was building RC racing hulls. Great stuff and goes a long way. Another product line I love is Interlux . The 2000e barrier coat went on smooth and quick. I now have 4 coats of 2000e and one coat of Trilux 33 red on it. I didn't plan on it, but on the way home from bowling I rolled on a coat. Man, GREAT stuff, went on smooth and went a mile! Two quarts will yeild 4 coats!! amazing... I will post pics after the second coat tomorrow... STAY TUNED!!!

She's looking good, Bob. I'm working on getting my '61, 32 ft CC Clipper up on here. Hope to have that done soon. I've been spending my time clearing her out and cleaning her up for the big move. Here's a picture or 2.

I couldn't get the pics to post so had to settle for the links. I only found 3 or 4 bad coots in the planks that can be scarf patched. The frame work is in pretty good shape for her age.

Not trying to derail this thread from your boat but I thought I'd show you a pic of the boat that I just finished. It's a 1968 Chris Craft Sportster.
4 year top to bottom rebuild.
This boat will be used daily by my friend. The only reason it is in this showroom is because it was like 100? outside while we were trying to finish it up. We decided it would be way more comfortable to finish it in his air conditioned showroom.
