I think i'm going to try the PVA primer to seal off the semi-cured fiberglass, i mean, what do i really have to lose? How long does it typically take fiberglass to fully cure once it has been sealed from air? So GT, you are saying that i can lay down a filet, and then put fiberglass right over it, almost immediately?

fully cure... weeks. Tack up and set to where its fairly hard.. 45 mins. If you mix your filleting material @1.5% Mekp you should be able to start glassin at the start of your fillets as soon as you finish at the end of your fillets or 45mins.

You don"t want to put any type of sealer over fillets unless you like sanding it all off..
You don't use any sealer until the last layer is applied.. I didn't use any wax or pva on my fiberglass and it is bone dry..

If you do put a sealer on and try to lay more glass over the sealer it will FAIL.
You need a clean uncontaminated surface to lay the glass over to get a good bond. Sealing and sanding can leave places in the corners and tight groves that may not get removed and it will cause failure..

My question to you is why do you want to create more work for yourself??

I was just going to put the PVA drywall primer on once i have laid up all my glass, not after each piece. I want to do this so that the resin will fully cure..... Without waiting 2 months, lol. For the inside i wouldn't even need to sand it off because i'm not painting it. The outside would be easy to sand it all off because there are no inside curves or any tight spaces. Decker, i am sure the intense heat of Texas is what attributed to your glass curing so fast without any wax additive or PVA. Vermont on the other hand.... Well Vermont is always raining, always humid, cold most the time, Hell, we have such strange weather here that it can be Snowing one minute and then 70degrees the next, just unpredictable. I am trying to get this boat done ASAP, i'm looking for Great quality, but certainly not Show room mantle piece work. Just gotta work work work so i can boat boat boat!!!! Can't wait to put it in the water

I have use fiberglass in cold temps and the hot ones and I don't use any wax or pva to cure the glass..
It will dry and cure if its catalyzed properly.. A light sanding will give you good results. I have only used the pva and wax on gel coats..

Check out the great glass work you did inside the hull and see if it still feels soft or wet..

Lol, but come to think of it that primer doesnt even cover all that well on the first coat when you put it on drywall, fiberglass might be a nighmare. I should probably just bite the bullet and get some wax additive

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying...I actually have laid CSM directly over still moist/soft fillets and used the CSM to actually give the fillets shape...If you continue to add layers of resin/glass over it, the chemical reaction created by the successive layers will begin to create so much exothermic{?} heat that even if you kick the resin slowly, it will be hard by the next day, at the latest...if your temps remain above the minimum required...
Like a lot of things that cure chemically, it can take as little as a few hours to several days, or even weeks...but it has been my experience that once the resin is hard after about 24 hours, you can do with it what you like, paint it, gel coat, use it as is, use it as intended without any adverse effects...if you want to fully cure it, you can put an additive in the last layer of whatever your topcoat is, whether it be resin/glass or gel coat...the only concern I have had with having resin fully cured is when I need to add more layers on top...sometimes as little as a week has gone by, and I would need to sand the resin to be sure to get a good mechanical bite, other times it has gone for longer, and all I have had to do is wipe it down with Acetone and go to town...Acetone is my indicator of whether or not the resin is fully cured...if I wipe it on the surface and it becomes sticky/tacky, I can lay more on top...if it doesn't I have to sand...
That is the way it has always worked for me...others may have different opinions or results...

Sounds good to me.. Just sand it down to a smooth finnish to make ready for paint..
Just make sure you use a good building primer before painting because the bare fiberglass will have alot of pinholes in it..
You can mix up some polyresin and 3m glass bubbles to make a fairing to cover the raw glass and it sands very easy..

The previous idiot that owned this boat had gouged the hell out of the hull with a angle grinder or something. Lots of circular gouges, how should i fill those in? Bondo? Could i maybe Prime the whole thing and then spackle the little low spots with bondo, sand it and then paint?

micro ballons & resin for FINE scratches

Ditto...^^^^...

Make a thickened paste of either of the two and use like putty...
The micro-ballons mix will be easier to sand but less structural...
The cabosil mix will be much harder to sand and a little bit more structural...
If you add milled fibers or chopped strands to either, it will make the repair a lot stronger, especially if the gouges are close to going all the way through...
However, if they are, you might want to consider adding a layer or two of CSM to reinforce the area, then fill with the putty...
Stay away from "BONDO"...it is not supposed to be used on top of fiberglass and it is not water resistant...
If you want to use spackle, you are on your own...:faint2:

Oh, lol i thought Spackling was a way in which you applied something... haha, i would never put drywall spackle on my boat, i thought it was a Verb. Alright GT I will fill gouges with a PB mixture and lay little patches of CSM if need be. Thank you

Hey Guys, So i added another 2 layers of 1708 to the bow end, and a layer of csm. I kinda lost track of how much fiberglass i put in there, i'd say like 4 layers of 1708 and 6 layers of Csm, not really sure, lol. Do you think i'll need to add fiberglass to the outside since I put so much on the inside? It feels really strong when i knock my fist on it

It depends on how well you want the outside to look...
Strength wise you are probably good to go...
Cosmetically, you may have to build up the area on the outside to make it smooth and ready for finishing...
Being that you have built up the inside so well, you may be able to get away with just some thickened resin using microballons to fill and fair any low spots...or you can continue to use some CSM to build the area up...it will be even stronger, but harder to sand...

My only reason to use the microballons is for the fairing.. Just to cover any small pin holes or other small bad spots..
The csm is really hard to sand compared to the microballons..
Trust me, take a look at my thread.. I sanded myself into oblivon on that tank.. I didn't fair out the last layer of csm on my hull and found alot of pin holes..:grumpy:
