I have a 60's evinrude skitwin 33 my original gearcase froze and i was lucky enough to find another on ebay. i mixed and matched all the good parts into one, but cant seem to stop the oil leaks. this last bout i sealed every seal with a rubberized epoxy used on aircraft. the prop seal doesnt seem to be leaking so it must be the upper shaft seal, or the shifter rod.. i pressurized the case and couldnt find leaks. but when i run it my trough has a ton of frothy oily residue. the fuel is 50:1 is this enough oil to froth it up?? i didnt check the oil for water yet just saw the foam and gave up..

1. does anyone know if there is a seal in the shifter rod its buried so far down in the gearcase i cant tell. if so is there a p/n?

2. Are the upper seals available?? does anyone have P/N??

Thanks
Barry

There are parts diagrams on several sites on the web, and from those sites, it seems that seals for 60s ski twin outboards are still available. It will be important to know the model number and year of the motor your lower unit came from.

It seems to me that you are mistaking the scum on the water with gear oil. It isn't. It is the oil that you put in the gas. Every morsel of that oil goes through the engine. Some burns (makes smoke) and the rest goes out the exhaust, where it is mixed with the hot water that has gone through the cooling system. Then the whole emulsified mess goes out the underwater exhaust outlet, into you tank. Yes, it looks disgusting. Can't help it, that's just the way it is. But it will be MUCH cleaner when you get it on a boat on the lake and get it properly adjusted.

Now about your gearcase: I don't know if it is leaking or not. It certainly isn't leaking to the extent you think it is. If it is not getting water into the oil and is not obviously dumping oil on the floor (don't mistake it for the discharged fuel), I would say run it a number of hours and recheck.

Model 33852B

does anyone know the year..

I hope its unburned fuel oil but at the same time i guess i dont. i am not much of an environmentalist but i dont know if i can get myself to leave a snail trail in the lake.. ill run it more and theck the gearcase oil..

hopefully "properly adjusted" is the key..

Thanks
