Re: 1960's Falcon Rebuild (New Title)

LOL fellas!! :)

It's really just how us Canuks roll.... hey the Finn's wash their own rugs by the sea.... the Canuks strip paint off their boat with toilet brushes, flour and pickle and jam jars...

We also haven't heard of snowblowers...we just use our leaf blowers. For clearing leaves we use chainsaws!

Have a great evening fellas!

PS -- Congrats there Glen!

Sum up: Proper Canuk Paint Stripping Recipe:

1. Safe Strip Paint Stripper
2. White Flour
3. Pickle or Jam Jar
4. Toilet Brush
5. Drywall (plastic) mudding tools --- 2 and 4"
5.5 Plastic
6. An insane amount of luck... :)
7. Timbits and a nice coffee
8. Canadian Football Grey Cup re-runs
9. Toque --- basically a warm hat made of beaver pelt
10. Light Beer --- Molson Golden.... (important to finish the job before switching to Imported...)

Have a great one!

Jim

Awesome!

A 2-3week job followed by weeks of sanding in polishing a small hull down to an afternoon to strip an aluminum boat hull, awesome...

JB --- Thanks man.... Yup... One could strip an entire boat in a morning or afternoon with this process...

B2 ---- Genius? Nah... barely above average for most things (excluding anything that involves the Admiral). With her, I fair far below average on everything but making toast! :)

Have a great one fellas!

Hey Jim, another big break through. I'm starting to think if we keep all this talk about easy paint stripping with an Canuck only product, There could be a mob coming out way LOL.
At this rate you will be polishing this weekend.

Well ya know it was a Canuk who invented the telephone... so there is some blood in us that has a wiff of inovation!

Polishing this weekend.... prolly not. Got xmas prep for 25 or so people the following weekend. Besides, I have to make a trip to get the polishing clay etc... no trully local place that I have found yet. Still working on it though!

Happy Turkey day to all our Amurcan Tin Bangers! Have a great day fellas!!!!

Re: 1960's Falcon Rebuild (New Title)

Hey fellas....

Ok... ended up a tad busy today... bought a 2014 Toyota Camry SE! The Admiral's car after 10 years was getting to be a tad tired.... so we just decided to finally move onwards. Really like it.

Got busy early this morning a decided to film a whole series of video's to show some of the paint stripping nuance's ---- hoping that they will help those that are looking for specifics of how to do things. I am going to post up one a week as a little mini video series. Hope you enjoy them and find them informative and uhhh entertaining if nothing else!

So I call these short little video clips : Just ask the Admiral - Mixing Jars

Have a great evening fellas!!!

Great video and adding in the Admiral is a nice touch. I know you really like to keep things close to the kitchen and all but if you stop at your local Auto Body /paint supply store you can pick up these real nice very cheap mix n measure cups in a range of sizes. If I remembered right the quart/ liter size cost me around 60 cents.

Re: 1960's Falcon Rebuild (New Title)

JB --- the Admiral and I and the kids were crackin' up over your comments there!! Too funny. I like the "Admirals Corner" as a sum up of the months progress. I will wear a crazy tie for the sum up and add a nutty side kick named Farquer Farqueson! Watch for it at the end of December!!! :)

Glen --- Ya... prolly easier to just buy one than raid the pantry... but I saved .60 cents and the gas to go get it!!! :) So now I can buy an extra Avocado a 2 onions for a nasty, but healthy lunch! :)

Nother posting later today.... Just Ask The Admiral # 2...................

Num-num, does that container have a screw on lid Jim? If so close her up and give it a good shake to mix it, that's what my Admiral does to make a thickener for gravy, using water and flour though.

Re: 1960's Falcon Rebuild (New Title)

Worst milkshake ever.......:watermelon:.

Hot tip back at ya: Shop the used goods shops (in the US they're called thrift/goodwill stores) and pick up either a well used kitchen mixer for $5, OR just the mixing paddles for $1-2 and use them in a cordless drill. GREAT for mixing all manner of stuff............... I have a set of bread kneading hooks (less vigorous/aggressive so I use it for some mixing):
88520-dualit-dough-hooks.jpg

and regular:
Standalone_1175X1290.jpg

In smaller containers they work good & don't throw what I'm mixing out of the cup like typical 'tool' or paint mixers do:
Sell_Electric_Hand_Mixer_Paddle_Mixer.jpg

And do a reasonable job in larger 2Qt containers too..............

BUT NOT for mixing everything, oil based paints & polyurethanes, water based poly/urethane, 2part epoxy or polyester resin SHOULD NOT be mixed this way. Introduces air bubbles that may not come out of suspension before you apply them, which makes a fairly pock marked surface once cured....

BTW: Wally world here usually has cheap kitchen mixers & electric knives on sale between now & xmas. Who in their right mind would by either as a gift, IDK, but for $10 you can buy either 1 new. The electric knives are pretty good for upholstery foam, & over filled pour in foam. Not sure if it'd cut rigid foam insulation very well............ I suspect there are quite a few places selling them cheap during the holiday sales, Sears & Kmart too................

if you run-out of flour (or the Admiral objects to you using the flour)...there's always pancake mix that Canadians seem to keep ample supply of!

Re: 1960's Falcon Rebuild (New Title)

Man.... you guys crack me up!!! John Candy ---- "Those aren't pillows!!!"....

JB - We here at The Hobby Shed know that more often than not, the tool used is usually the tool closest at hand --- not necessarily the right tool!

GA -- Yup... the Admiral was dismayed that I didn't know what size that was... course she was even more surprised that I had dumped the remains of the protein powder into the other one we had --- not realizing they were NOT the same flavor or brand!! Oooops!

Ok... summary for videos going forward:

Season Episodes --- Will cover off in longer format what I am doing
Just Ask The Admiral --- Details of the episodes in short format
The Admirals Corner --- Monthly review of progress, successes and challenges. There will likely be a guest speaker as well for December's review just to add some additional humor and fun to the whole thing!

I will also still post pictures etc --- old school if you will of what's going on... especially as I get into the wood working section. But I figured since this is the 3 build, it would be good to shake it up a bit.

Hope you guys like the new format and works. If it doesn't please feel free to flog me senselessly and otherwise drag me over the coals! :)

Have a great evening fellas!!!

And there you have it. Never, never, never, never mix flour!. According to the Admiral in command of the kitchen based boater re-builder. :tsk: You will be brought up on charges and flogged, maybe keel hauled. And deservedly so. :moony::whip:

we wouldn't flog you senselessly, there'd be a sense of purpose to it.....

but gents, note the Wisdom of our TinBro: he buys a BRAND NEW Admiralwagen, which has to have bought him some slackage for boat work......
