Re: 1960's Falcon Rebuild (New Title)

Thanks fellas! I really appreciate the comments, compliments and suggestions! :)

I am taking Friday off and will be spending some time on this rig... I'll post some pics and a perhaps a short vid of where we're at and how the layout looks.

I took a few minutes last night and moved the console forward + the main seats and yah... a rear bench just fits in there. Interesting thing is that the console has to come out a bit from the side as the hull of the boat begins to curve in at that point. Gonna take a look and see if the console can be modified slightly to keep it tight to the gunwale.

Have a great brrrrrrr cold Wednesday!!!!!!!!!!!

shouldn't be too hard to mark and match that curve, esp with your fabrication skills

Re: 1960's Falcon Rebuild (New Title)

Hey fellas... little update here...

First thanks B2 and WW... all fixed up now!

Here we go...

Got the front floor cut for hinging to lift out the bow tank and extra foam put in the sides:

Filled the bow sides and front with foam... still a bit short, but I will pickup some more before everything gets locked down permanently:

Got the side decorative pieces cut and the side console fixed up. I laminated another piece of foam and a piece of 1/4" ply --- super strong surprisingly! Also got the side pieces cut at the front in a curve to account for the hull curving in. I have a piece of 1/4" ply behind that will also be attached and covered in carpet --- just to finish it off nicely. It bends well to the curve of the hull.

Drilled out a hole for the gas line:

Dash face is width cut, but needs to be curved cut and sanded. Console is ready to have the foam/vinyl treatment!

That's it for now.

Tomorrow is curve cut the dash pieces. Sand the decorative pieces and dash. Spar everything... floor, side pieces, front bulk head, deck, transom, etc.

Little by little!

Have a great Friday fellas!

Jim, looking great. i must confess that the plan before the groupthink redesign wasn't doing so much for me but i REALLY like the direction you're going currently. not that the opinion of one aging drunken fool in west Texas should matter to anyone with any sense.....

So wait.....

Are you thinking about my foam core deck in the Sea Nymph?

Or, are you identifying me as a kanuckidian????????:mad-new::mad-new::mad-new:

Hey Jim, nice progress on the bow deck build out there! That can be tricky work, well done:thumb:

Structure's looking real good Jim. As B2 said where your going with the design is coming along nicely. After Jason rendition of "O" Canada
we all now know he is a Kanuck down deep.

Thanks fella's....

Did a little more "family time" in the boat to figure out if the layout with the bench at the back was still good. Ended up moving the console to about 4" from the front deck. That seems to have made everyone good with the spacing.

My daughter wants to sew up the vinyl for back seats vs buying seats... so naturally I am totally cool with that!

Got the whole shop cleaned up --- it had become a disaster zone --- will post some pics later today to go over the new face of the console that I have been working on and the side pieces.

PS -- Ya... Glen, I totally agree... I think we've got ourselves a bonefied "in the closet" Kanuckian wannabe! We might have to have an "intervention" just to help him through the process eh?!

Well, you'll need some coaching on the national anthem. - Grandad

That was pretty sweet:thumb:

I thought about ad libbing some lines into my version but opted not to as I thought that my be disrespectful. So instead, I just sang it really the only way I knew how, beautifully:drama:

I used to like my Canadian Bacon

I'm sure that Canada probably makes some no fat, turkey flavored, all soy, super lite, hormone free, reduced salt, maple tree bark, high fiber, extra yellow #5, free range, bacon free, Canadian bacon. Just look for it at the Supermarket, should be there right next to the actual bacon made from a real pig:pig:

Aren't I helpful?:becky:

Alrighty.... some progress to report from a land far away....

First got the 3 pieces of the dash face sanded individually, glued and clamped and ready for final sand tomorrow.

Got all the decorative wood pieces that are going in the boat... 2 side pieces, 2 gunwale top side pieces and the piece behind the rear seat all cut, sanded and ready for spar varnish

Got some spar action here:

And some more here...

(Also ahhhem... managed to paint the green on the doll house... but that's not for me.... I've moved on... :D )

It may not seem like much... but like anything, it takes a bit! Got some family stuff tomorrow... but plan on getting the rest of the spar varnish applied to the floor and more coats over the next couple of days since it is much warmer now outside --- close to the freezing mark!!!

Have a great Sat. night folks!!!

That's a pile of woodwork you have accomplished there. Did you take stock in Spar?

I think the only reason spar is still on the shelves of stores in Canada is cuz of Jims rebuilds :D
Looks like lots of tricky fitting pieces Jim.

Great looking woodwork!

And for the record, I think you picked & applied a great color for the dollhouse too :watermelon:

Somewhere in here there's a tinny (vintage, but not an SC) that got sprayed a very similar color, and it turned out GREAT too.
