Re: 1961 14' runabout

It kinda freaks me out how much this boat looks like my AeroCraft. Even the black "splatter" on the white interior. I'm currently doing a restore on mine as well. I have pics in my thread on my progress. You can find it here.

I hope your stringers weren't constructed like mine were!

Good luck with your restore!

Kinda freaky is right  they can pass for twins and actually the boat was orig. red. I don't belive my stringers looked like forks though:D but I wouldn't know because mine came out in small wet & nasty pieces  I will be keepN an eye on your restro, thanks for the link:cool:

cool boat. I will be keeping an eye on this one.

I am fixing mine up as well. I just resined the stringers and put the transom together today. :)

Re: 1961 14' runabout

Quick Update: I'm starting to receive parts that I have ordered and also got a good deal on a SS steering wheel with rotary teleflex system from Craigslist for $65. This forum sure did come in handy for answers on how to get the steering wheel off the D@! teleflex system. Almost pulled my arms out the socket :D before doing a search on the forum and finding that a lot of people have gone threw the same problem. I wound up taking the forum advice of going to autozone for a gear puller (loaner tool) Less than a minute it took to come off:D This site is the best. I also picked up a resporator from Home depot and will start grinding this weekend. Here are the picks from the ad, I took my own pics but these were quicker to add.

Oh the joys of grinding fiberglass. Well, at least it's not hot outside. You're going to know that boat inside and out.:)

Re: 1961 14' runabout

how did i miss this one?

welcome..:)

i can see you have done this before.

btw.......can you find out from the neighbor how long ago the repairs were made?????

this would give us a great time line on a shoddy job......looking at the transom im guessing 6 years.

you are doing good work....your time line is good depending on the depth of the exterior resto......and a walk thru will be great...but you will need to reinforce the underside of the cap if it is to be used as a casting deck/suntan pad.

cheers

Colobiker I have nothing on the boat side to update besides the grinding I did the week before last. I tried to have pics taken but nobody wanted to get near me or the boat, I wonder why:confused:
I have however been spending alot of time in the Force engine forum trying to get the motor running before it gets to cold. I'm making alot of progress on the motor thanks to maxum247, this gut knows his stuff. Today looks like off and on rain here in VA, so with no garage I guess no motor or boat work today . Never wanted a garage until I got this project.

oops thanks for checkin yer out. The neighbor's work was done sometime in march 08. When he fixed the transom, what he actually did was put a 1/4" over the existing rot! Here's the pic

BTW I have never done this before but I know I will do a better job than my neighbor :D

This little boat is not hard to restro at all, it just takes lots of time & a tremendous amount of patients. A lot of my time is wasted on the fact that I don't have a garage to work out of. Like now it's raining so again no work

I definitely know the feeling about the rain. Today would have been a good day for me "but" I had to take care of the grandaughter. Nothing constructive gets done around a 3-1/2 year old with all the questions. Picking up tihings saying "what's this, what's that, what's it used for, etc., etc, etc!" LoL Ron

I have my 4 year old and the 2 1/2 year old grandbaby today, I think I'm going deaf! I start to think on my next move on the boat, an hour later I'm no futher in the planning process than when I started.

"MUTINEY!" I just know there is a plot being formulated against me!! I can't even fire her without the home office taking my captains credentials away! Someone should break out the rum. Oh, I forgot, I don't drink! LoL Ron

My little girl who is 9 actually was a pretty good helper until she got the fiberglass itches from not listening. After tossing, turning & scratching all night she will not come within 50 feet of the boat. I might have to bribe her to help me get the screws back in the cap when that time comes ;)
