Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Hey Kenny,

Thanks for posting on my 1962 Lonestar Flamingo. I know NOTHING about the old FLASHER sonars. I was told it works perfect. If you could enlighten me on how it works and if it is worth keeping and will help me find fish then I would greatly appreciate the help. Your project looks like a Work of Love. Why else would you have tackled it. Great woodworking on your enclosure for your flasher unit.

Good luck with your continuing project
Hope to hear from you soon.

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Coolest boat name I've heard in a while:D

I may bevel my deck while I still have a chance, thanks for the idea. Probably a good way to make sure the edges aren't going to be squeaking by rubbing on the hull.

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Hi Mike{woodonglass}, thanks for looking in & you have a sweet project going on yourself. As to the flasher as with most new to us stuff, it's takes some time to understand the process's and capabilities. My suggestion is{if possible} take it out to a known area, and learn by observing the differences in the signals over rock, muck, weed beds etc. The rest is similar to the lcd types as far as sensitivity depth etc.

Thanks H.A., I read of others here doing the beveling, and well, I guess I'm actually paying more attention lol.

Been kinda nasty around here weather wise, so mostly stuck inside...
started getting the deck sheets epoxied...

As luck would have it, I split the tip of the bow piece swinging up unto the workbench{duhhh}, so I dug out an old jig thingy I've had for who knows how long, cut a replacement piece and drilled some holes, used hardwood dowels to connect the new piece to the remains of the original...

Here's the jig and the markings{guide lines}
minidscf1336.jpg

Glue in the dowels...
minidscf1350.jpg

Clamp it flat and wait and hour or so...

Got a gift from a good friend of mine today...a Minn Kota trolling motor, don't know how well it will push the 18'r around, but the price was great...free!

LOL, you can tell I'm going stir-crazy here, what with all of these meaningless photos lol

I think that's a fairly hefty trolling motor. That will push your boat quite well. Probably more than 12 volt.

I have no idea on voltage or thrust numbers... Friend said he only had one battery to use and also couldn't remember the pounds of thrust. It's a 1991 though, THAT he could remember lol

anyone familiar?

Hey HSF,
I have several pairs. I can send you some. I need the foresight glasses.
I haven't brought this up in awhile, but I was thinking about it tonight and smiled. I was thinking about some rope trim to cover the crack. :D:p:D
Just kidding.
Looks good.

Send a pair of each Bob, lord knows I need them. :D

Warning - the following photos may seem obscene to some...

Since this is not the correct style trailer for this tub, I decided I would not go all out on it...instead I chose to {ahem} freshen her up a tad. A quick go around with the sander, followed by a couple of light coats of primer and a couple more of rusto from the spray bombs, but did manage to shake loose a few coins for some Led tail lights. Need to splice in the side markers tomorrow along with carpeting & installing the bunks...and looks like 'maybe' I can readjust the fenders to a more suitable placement. Going to try and limp by with this trailer until my wallet heals {sometime in 2012 I presume, lol} need to find a spare wheel/tire tho in the meantime. No close up of the hitch/winch area as I haven't worked it yet, still playing with how she sits, so... will wait till after then to finish it up.

Got my latest order from iboats the other day, and they're predicting rain again tomorrow, so maybe I'll dig out the dash and mount the switches and get a jump on 'some' wiring....hate doing it laying all contorted like under the dash.....getting close to flipping the hull back & on the trailer, and then all's that's left is......aw forget it....moving on is all that counts{or so I keep telling myself }.

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Thanks Guys!

Joe, you missed typed part of your statement...should of been "mad if he believes he has skills"

Jas, If I'm not mistaken, that trailer is set up for an inboard or jet boat, and I'm concerned about any possible damage due to the lack of support...maybe over thinking it, but hey at my age, just glad I can {lol}. Thought about having a piece welded in, but then I would want another roller and I would like the tongue length a couple of feet longer, add in the fenders are too short to my liking and pretty soon it starts adding up...I know the bunks & rollers give the support, but something about it doesn't look right after all that, maybe I shouldn't think this early in the am :confused:

Doesn't Motorspykler have the same trailer under his? I think he made some mods to it to make it pretty well perfect.

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

As usual the weather man was 'mistaken' again...beautiful day, mid 60's, light wind, lots of sunshine.

Got the new bunks carpeted...
minidscf1409.jpg

and finally, back on the trailer...is that sun reflection the beginning of the light at the end of the tunnel?
I sure #$~*#^ hope so!
minidscf1410.jpg

minidscf1411.jpg

Which now leads to adjustment time...
Rollers are way off...
minidscf1413.jpg

as well as the bunks...
minidscf1415.jpg

That'll be tomorrows fun, after I get back from having 'Bandit' snipped{ouch, I try not to think about it...poor fella} lol...hopefully it'll settle him down some, if I had a tenth of the energy he does, I would of finished this tub ages ago :D

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Awesome paint on both the boat and trailer. What prep did you do for the trailer? Strip, sand, paint? What type of paint?

Friggin sharp, man.
