Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Looks great..I am thinking I will see what I can do for my tired dull (galvanized) trailer..
That bunk adjustments is a PITN&A! I have to do mine as well..was gonna loosen a nut then using my rolling floor jack, use the jack to lift the bracket up to make the bunk get up to the hull..

Set it up so the majority of the weight is on the bunks. The bunks are the support, the rollers are a guide.

Awesome paint on both the boat and trailer. What prep did you do for the trailer? Strip, sand, paint? What type of paint?

Friggin sharp, man.

Thanks Ober51, I ran an orbital sander across the trailer outside and used a wire brush on the insides{very quick job, nothing to be proud of lol} primer'd and painted with rustoleum semi-gloss black...looks good in the photo's ;) up close is another story.

Thanks Kev, I had figured it would be a pain once the boat was back on, so I cracked them all loose when I prepped for the trailer painting, all move freely now and shouldn't take much to loosen them again for adjustments{said with fingers crossed}...but your idea just moved to the front of the line if another work-around is needed, thanks for that.

Edit - great reminder EZ...Thanks

Thanks NB...Would luv too, but don't think finances will allow it this year, probably would be a last minute decision at best...and would probably call for sleeping in the boat lol...ya never know tho with me ;) ..................all irrelevant if I don't light a fire under myself...still lots left to do.

Sounds good Kenny...I've got you penciled in as the lead vehicle in our Starcraft caravan:) Sleeping in the boat is our backup plan if we run out of $$ too.

We will stop and meet up with wfralpacas in NE Indiana on the way.(last minute decision ok with us:))

BTW I think that trailer is good for you rig, just a little tweaking and it should be fine in my opinion.

I may have to sleep in the boat period with all the costs adding up for the restore. If I get a camper top done I will sleep in the boat at these outings just to get my moneys worth :)

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

I owe you a cold one Kev, wow what a nightmare adjusting the rollers & bunks. If it weren't for that jack tip I'd still be out there. As I mentioned earlier, I loosened the bolts/nuts when I prepped the trailer for paint..well I was either strong that day when I re-tightened them, or I was pure wuss today. I had to use a cheater bar on 75% of them, broke two bolts, arm's and hands look like they went through a meat grinder...tried to lower everything...fail...rear supports at their lowest meant everything else needed to be raised, so once again back under her I went, here's where the Thank you thank you thank you Kev comes in...easy lowering the supports, whole nuther story trying to raise them.

And to add to the misery, since it was near lunch time, the ol gal decided I might like a face full of rust sandwich...the blood added a unique flavor....never ever will I trade or upgrade this trailer...my old ticker couldn't handle going thru this again...

OK now that I'm done whining, onto the pix...

Rollers just touching...

Man does this thing sit high or is this about normal? That's a 4ft step ladder to give an idea...
minidscf1449.jpg

Still need to do something with these fenders....sad sad sad...the other side looks like this too...
minidscf1452.jpg

Guess my eyes are worse than I thought, really can't blame it on lighting...guess I have more body work{dings/dents} and some paint touch ups to do yet...
minidscf1442.jpg

I have no idea how I missed this and can't even imagine the story behind it

Sooooo, how was your day? LOL

Sounds like you got the trailer set up PERFECT and that's a good thing. I lucked out with mine and got it right on the first try. On the trailer I redid for the Jupiter I botched it horribly. Pretty much the entire weight of the boat was teetering on like one roller  I eventually got it right but that trailer project was really a complete disaster. I HATE TRAILERS!

HSF,
Nice work on the trailer.
You may need to do a little work on the boat yet, but it still looks pretty good.
Take care

When I began to work on the bushings on my trailer springs I took my Dremel with a wire wheel and cleaned up the threads of the bolts. Then I sprayed them with penetrating stuff and went to have lunch. They unscrewed with little effort. I used to make fun of Dremels but now cannot imagine not having one.

Yeah Albert, I used PB Blaster on them, works great...I have no idea why they were so hard to remove today, I didn't have much trouble at all the other day

But...

What a difference sliding 'er back or winching her up now....smooth & easy :D
