Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Ha! Thanks HSF. No $ needed. Let's just go fish'in sometime! I don't charter as much cause it gets in the way of my fun fish'in! More of a business write off than anything! ;) Anyhow... keep up the great work!

Hey Bcast, if Hope doesn't take up too much space in your rig I am a pretty good net man!:D:D

Wow, thanks Broadcast, what an offer...may take you up on that when I get back on my feet...unemployment socks! Lot's of free time no greens to enjoy it :(

Hey Jas, I have a big ol tacklebox you could always stow away in if need be lol

After the fiasco paint job today{pix coming in a few}, that offer brought a much needed smile...Thanks again Broadcast!

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Soooo, the 5200 was still tacky, along with the second coat of gluvit, figured no sense in cutting foam and possibly having the little pieces stuck everywhere...sooo I decided to have a look-see at the lower rub-rail...

During it's pre-Kenny life, someone{s} had painted the rub-rail, numerous times...
minidscf1624.jpg

This was very flexible compared to the upper rubrail{which I discarded}, so out came the sander...what have I got to lose me thinks to me self...so with a light touch...
minidscf1627.jpg

Hmmm, not to shabby...how about the lip edge I asked to no audience...
Hey I said outloud, put a mini wire wheel on the drill press and see what comes of it...
minidscf1631.jpg

Well, not to bad for not having a clue...about 15 minutes for each step, against how much per foot?...We be happy
minidscf1635.jpg

Hmmm {again} now how could we darken this el cheapo style?
Ah ha...found the answer in the closet...
minidscf1622.jpg

Oh yeah...tightwadness at it's finest LOL

So the missus was admiring my frugalness, and out of nowhere she blurts out..maybe you should add some more color to the paint job...I should of seen it coming....

continued below...

Good timing Snowhunter...
Here's a shot of the repair area{one of many lol}
minidscf1649.jpg

I was quite happy with it...until I steeped back to take another look...
minidscf1650.jpg

Yep, you guessed it...Murphy nailed me...seems as though there was a label mix up on the paint, or the lot that I bought from first, was waaaaay diff than this new purchase...figure's, more taping and painting to come...will it never end
minidscf1652.jpg

To add insult to my injury, the holes for the rrail end caps{in the hull} are elongated and that means the screws I bought won't pull it up tight...Grrrrr
minidscf1644.jpg

Alas... there's always a silver lining if one searches....todays was the Starcraft emblems that Bret{Walfrapas...sp} made for me{I believe available for anyone at a great price}...it almost passes for a real starcraft boat now! :D ...Thanks again Bret!!!
minidscf1651.jpg

Anyways..at the rate I'm going, I should be a qualified painter in another year or three of this on the job training

Fun part now is trying to get more of the upper blue as we like that tone/shade better.

Hope ya all had a great monday!

No worries, it comes with being born in Southern Illinois... almost all the way down to Kentucky and Tennessee... :)

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Hmmmm...???

Seems there is not a paint difference after all...apparently it's an optical illusion...due to lighting

End cap against upper paint stripe...
minidscf1692.jpg

against the lower stripe...
minidscf1693.jpg

With flash...
minidscf1688.jpg

without flash...
minidscf1689.jpg

Well if this don't beat all...
So as not to let Jas down, guess I'll just "roll with it" ;) didn't really want to tape today anyways lol...seen anything like it?

HSF,
That repair work looks good. I like the leather die idea too.

That's so weird...maybe throwing a shadow under where the deck mates with the hull? Kind of like the difference between your "with flash" and "without flash" pics?

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

I even spun the trailer around 45 degrees to get it all in the sunshine...no difference...it socks, but it's staying for now...maybe I will paint up a scrap piece to carry with me so when someone comments on using two different shades...I can make a little wager lol and with enough luck{inquiries} could pay for a repaint ;):D
