Kenny you know I always give it to you straight. I LOVED your original paint job including (and even especially) the blue stripe. It was really classy. But I think the upper stripe, and definitely the blue end caps detract a bit. I think the caps would look sweet in black.

Thanks EZ, was leaning towards the black end caps myself, but the upper stripe was the Missy's idea...first 'real'{;)} input she doled out, better keep that lol

Oh and speaking of swmbo...she was running late for work this morning and gave me a dog treat..lol....usually the dogs get the treat and I get a kiss, hope she tasted dog hair all day :p
We both got a good chuckle out of it{true story!} Oh the pains of growing old :D

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

End caps are now black ;) need a wet sanding and second coat tho...
Got the Mrs back on board to the original paint after she got a good look at the color diff's in the lighting{& another thanks to EZ for the eye opening...think my next project will be shipped direct to him...save me alot :)...cover up paint coming today I hope.

Started playing around with the windshield, I'm cutting the side pieces down, they were horrible once I removed the trim piece's{metal carpet edging} the po had used to hide the gap. To have the glass/frame sitting properly on this tub, would cause the back 3/4th's of the window to be lifted about two/three inches...will post some shots after I get the new idea tightened up cosmetically.

No new photos this time, only thing I did yesterday that's complete, was to attach the hull registration numbers...dang yard work keeps getting in the way, but hey, my weedwhip started first pull after sitting silent since last Oct.

@Bob...it's always a treat when you don't have to beg for it ;)
And it tasted sorta like chicken...btw...seems I'm always in the dog house for one reason or another...gives her a good feeling I suppose and thats our job to make them feel good at all times LOL

Good deal HSF. I am happy to be the Cult's aesthetic adviser :p

Looking forward to seeing what you do with the windshield. There was a super nice windshield for sale here locally off a Spectrum Blue Fin for only $50 that I would have loved one of our resto guys to get.

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

^^^^^ Club club club

So here's how I went about modding my side glass
First I disassembled the frame and removed the seals...
minidscf1713.jpg

Then I figured out & marked the angle for the cuts...the lower front angle does not change in this set-up, just the back ends and front upper joint that need tweakin... & I cut them using a metal cutting blade on my miter-saw
minidscf1714.jpg

Used tin-snips and a file to shape/fine tune the joints, some of the insides of the frame needs 'relief' cuts to assist in allowing the joint{each end was different in what to remove. but simple to figure out when looking in at them}
minidscf1718.jpg

then drilled some screw holes to hold 'er together. I had some old lexan I used until I'm more 'financially' able to order some tempered glass. but will do fine until then...
minidscf1719.jpg

Here's a shot of the starboard side, although take into account the angle here much steeper then when actually fastened to the closed bow, and I set it on the old seal to simulate the foam seal that goes on underneath when mounting...the sides sort of swivel out, allowing it to sit with a more layed down effect
minidscf1728.jpg

couple more photos in a minute or two...

made both sides btw...just had to load this photo as I thought it looked cool :p

Lastly today{short day} I ordered my two front seats...

I never had good luck with the upholstered seats, I'll either make some cushions, or use throwables as store bought is outrageous in pricing.

Also ordered two of these pedestals, they're adjustable from 13 - 18 inches and I have a slide mount for the captains side, still looking for another for the co-pilots..

Hope everyone has a great afternoon! :)

Hope she floats soon HSF! Good work mate... and I love those height adjustable pedestals. I'm going to find a pair for the T-machine as I have to crane my neck to see over the dash as she gets onto the plane. :D

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Nice work. My windshield felt a little loose. I may end up doing the same and swap in tinted glass at some point.

I need to see if I can dig up some new flange bolts to holds the windshield down. I don't want to pull the windshield too many times since my bolts aren't the best.

HSF,
Nice work on the windshield.
I like the seats and pedestals too. Very nice.
The two together look pretty cool, maybe you should look a making them a little bigger and have a stealth boat. :p:D

I think you are right on this one too.

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Getting closer to installing the foam & deck....did the leak test today

filled her up past the seams...
minidscf1748.jpg

and of course...one drip...but...it's coming from the keel piece which means it could be from anywhere down the centerline...Grrrr
minidscf1745.jpg

Think what I'll do is lift the bow as high as possible, then slowly fill her...should at least give an indication of how far from the stern towards the bow I'll need to re-gluvit...Grrrr again

Some of you may remember the splashwell smash well that came with the package ...
mini73808141.jpg

Well, out came the 'All Metal' again, if this stuff holds up to a beating it is the cat's behind...simple to use, other than the three minute working window, sands easily and a qt w/hardner goes for about $25...looks good for now at least lol
minidscf1758.jpg

Oh yeah, you can see I sprayed bed-liner in the splashwell...if for nothing else...to quiet it down some, nothing more irritating than sinkers bouncing around lol
minidscf1753.jpg

Anyone know where to find this style of grommet?/cover thingy? This is one from the side of the splashwell, and I wouldn't mind at all if I could find one to match...
minidscf1767.jpg

Hope everyone has a great weekend...calling for rain on & off here the next 4 days...Look... another Grrrr.....

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

dry her off completly...throw flour or baking soda or sumthin on her..
Add water and follow the wet spot..
Or Or Or...

Tape on some newspaper tight..and follow the drip..
Maybe easier to do the whole thing one more time with the gluv

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

She has only one stringer and it runs the centerline...L-shaped bend on the bottom where it attaches, 2 rivets between each rib securing it to the hull and the keel ...I put two coats of gluvit down 'each' side{one side is just hull to keel}...thinking there might be some corrision under that 'L' lip, and the way it's made/cut could allow water to enter under the stringer via the notch for drainage

hope this explains better than I just did lol...the stringer is shown raised for clarification...
leak.jpg

gonna try raising it up high and hopefully the gluvit will run down under the length of the stringer...may have to start & stop at each rib....smiles on me :(
