Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Thanks folks!

Joe- this is the time one appreciates the phrase 'the camera doesn't do it justice' {you can't see all the flaws from where you are ;)}

Don- Yeah on second thoughts here, glad I'm not going out, I've got enough nut-cases right here{neighbors} to make for an unforgettable weekend :D

Mike- was that 'storage' directed at the on deck stuff or the fact it sits in the driveway?

Clark- It scares me at times to think, I may enjoy the trip as much if not more than the destination

Kenny..

Too cool, very nice. I was thinking of something similar with the 2 storage boxes and how 2 big old igloo ice chests would be nice to step onto when boarding and exiting..love em

That dash and console are just too cool. It'll really be a great boat for hanging out in, you'll never want to dock it.

Haha, I'm afraid to answer knowing how I go about things

LOL, I can't seem to get out of it as it is, let alone enough to pull it to the water....Vroom vroom{said from the driveway}

Thanks guy's, hopefully my lazy butt will pick-up some speed and we'll get her splashed before it needs winterizing  :D

Need help Kenny? I'll shoot over and help out and bring some beers. I'm dying to look (copy for the most part) at your interior anyways.

Don't make me stalk you at the boat launches.:p I know what your boat looks like.:D

Hey Kenny,
The boat just keeps getting better. Some really nice work on the storage boxes and the one under the dash.
Now, Get her in the water you both deserve it.
Nice work my friend.

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Thanks guys, I've been spinning in circles here.

Been playing with some old tent poles and a piece of canvas...

After getting it where I could live with it{even with the multi colored fittings lol}, I noticed something I hadn't before. Seems these old eyes of mine were on vacation when I mounted my windshield, and it wasn't until I stepped back to look at the top that I seen I was way off center. Look at the the edge of the windshield frame and the gunnel and you can see it was quite a bit...

The sunshade top thingy really enhanced the offset. Being anal as I can at times, I tore into re-doing the shield mounting. Now it looks much better to my eyes anyways...though the top needs a few more snaps.

But......I now have Swiss cheese for a bow deck  and the paint job is beyond hope with that stripe now outta whack...grrrr I can't win for losing!
minidscf2158.jpg

Not to mention rain on and off all day, soaking the canvas before I could treat it, hope it shrinks back tight when it dries.

Guess you guys have been right all along trying to get me to wet her, the more I sit here and look at it, the more things I find I want to do to it....In reality, money has been extremely tight as of late, so who knows when she'll attempt to float.:(

Thanks for hanging in there with me! Hope your Monday went better.

How's that line go...'if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all'
Aw well, keeps things from getting monotonous I guess

Hang in there bud..so paint a wider stripe on the bow..easy peasy...aint nobody gonna notice that stuff when your tooling by them in your badazzz boat...

I myself could use a little monotony about now!

HSF,
Look at the bright side. You got your windshield squared away, and we already no you can fix the rest.
Keep on keeping on.

Thanks Kev, I'm leaning to just repainting the whole front in the gray, after filling the cheese holes and sanding them, it would be easier I believe. That and the homemade bow piece from the PO is slightly off kilter as well....or....grab the sawz-all and just make it an open bow  joking!

Edit: Thanks Bob for the vote of confidence ;)

Hey Kenny, I think it was iboats dear-departed friend SB_N who kept saying: "Just keep on, keeping on." Mate, she'll look a million bucks when you're finished so don't stress the small stuff! :D Cheers,

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

K.

I did the same thing with my stripe - just redid it - not as I want it too look - but I decided that the deck is going to get redone at years end - it just get banged up while you use it anyway.

One would figure - centering a stripe would be easy - but i goofed it too - apparently one needs the skills of CBK to get it done!

Also - those windshields are tricky to install - you think the way to do it is one piece at a time - but I found you really have to assemble the whole thing at once at you install it. Don't worry - as you cruise around Lake St Clair - you won't notice!
