This looks like a great project! I can't believe you got that much boat/trailer for 350$, but it sounds like you did your research..

If you haven't found a good way of plugging those hulls you might want to look into this product:

It should be pretty strong, and I've heard of people using it to fix pretty much anything aluminum. The video is definitely worth checking out as well. A guy punches about a half inch hole in an aluminum can and then patches it with a torch in less than 10 seconds.

That is pretty much the same stuff as alumaweld and honestly not worth your time and trouble unless you actually enjoy severe bouts of agravation and frustration . The best options for welding aluminum are MIG and TIG welding with TIG honestly being the best option for filling small holes without overheating the surrounding metal .

Same issue here. Multiple holes, no defined locations, just... there...

Looks to me like that last time a deck was put on the Previous Owner marked the hull, drilled new holes, and put in new rivets.

After drilling out my old rivets I will have to even see if I can get the right sized rivets for the holes. Otherwise, I am doing the same thing you described!

LOL Azonic, may as well say it's yours, I like the fact that we{SC'rs} can all gather from each other from the similarities....

Well...I hate to say this but I believe my hull is going to have to wait until spring for anymore sprucing-up, unless I can find a warm shop. No sense in trying to prep right now without being able to seal it up proper. Time to turn to the inside things like making the dash, cleaning up hardware etc. etc. - I still haven't gone thru the Johnson as I intend...soooo unless a string of unusually warmer air flows in allowing me to yank out the transom, there won't be much in the way of progress shots of the hull

Did do as EZ mentioned about moving the bow stop forward on the trailer... Not sure if it's what I'm staying with or if I'll end up swapping with the one under the Imperial...At least for now the worry about developing a hook should be under control.

So there has been talk of stealing the motor and the trailed from the glasser for this project. That the future hold for your other project? You were doing a nice job on it.

Well...not really sure yet. After the stealing, I'll need to repair/replace what I took. I've already decided to use the seats that came with the starcraft as they are in decent shape and will save me some $$$ making her{Imperial} somewhat presentable. I would like to square her up with some power, but the old wallet has been having a hard time replenshing itself lately...we'll keep watching CL over the winter and see what developes.

I do like the Imperial, but with where I tend to get back in amongst while fishing wouldn't sit well with glass I'm afraid{shallow water stumps, rock piles etc}. Also not much skiing/wakeboarding in my life nowadays, more leisurely cruising/fishing. The dog & wife{notice the listing priority lol} don't care whats under them as long as she floats & gets from point A to B & back.

Back to the Imperial, yeah...did put some hours into her but I enjoy that kind of kill-time, and I'm sure I can get pretty close the monetary value I put in it{or close enough at least}. And I'm kinda leaning to throwing the johnson on her{if I don't find other power} for at least one ride in her to make peace with her..LOL.

Either or, it's been a great learning experience{which I thank you all for}... it's true what they say about idle hands....

So...while the wife's been busy with her work X-Mas parties, one last night at some fancy schmancy restaurant, and another today at the MGM casino{in Detroit}...I stoked up the fire in the garage, and spent the weekend having my own little party. I started by routing out a piece of mahogony...

followed up with rough shaping my dash out of red oak...

routed a shallow pass around the joint line of the connecting pieces...

and inlayed some brass stock...

not too bad for free-hand if I may say so myself...

cut out spaces for the gages, radio's etc...and threw down the first coat of oil stain{ 3 or 4 more coats to come}...

One more to follow...

It's looking pretty good.
You seem to have some pretty good woodworking skills too.
The wood skills and tools really help when working on the inside of the boat.
What are you going to finish it with?

Thanks Bob, probably linseed oil unless I hear of something better. I've used this on our outdoor swing and various knick-nacs around the deck/yard over the past couple of years and have been pleased so far with the durability.

Some of the tools I have, it's the skill I'm lacking...lol...trick is to not take too many close-up photo's

Thanks guy's, someday I may regret not using a composite type material, but woodworking has always been a fun hobby for me and this shouldn't become a burden to maintain...I hope lol.

I also hope to add some detailing of some sort when I get to the side panels along with the remote possibility of going with a wood finished deck...not like I can't change my mind down the road if it becomes too much, or gives out too soon...we'll see as time & thoughts go on this winter.

Wow, thats fancier than the 18 Holiday I grew up in.

My Uncle's (well called him Uncle) white and baby blue 18' Holiday, Vinyl floor, 2 Sleeper seats, deck hatch, no walk trough wind shield. 90 V4 Johnson, also 61, white and about the size of a Small Block Chevy.

Complete with a red "Hot Light" in a chrome light switch plate on the dash, and Atwood Speedo, with dip tube, and of course his name sake invention "Baldwin Boat Bailer" lever on the dash.

Some what dirty, white vinyl half top, that never came down in any weather conditions, but never rotted.

Him behind the white clothsline controled steering wheel. Smoking his pipe.

Funny though, it was the Roughest Riding boat say next to a Bayliner Capri, that I have ever been in, but after 40 years and almost 1 hundered boats, it is the one boat that has the most memories.

I like it just the way it is. It may take a little upkeep but should be worth it.
You may notice I love woodworking myself.
