Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Thanks again all...I was worried I might have gotten semi-flamed for going this route, you made me smile :)

Doh...I tried to find a picture of that bailer, closest I got was patent info...got any photo's or leads?

Yes Bob, I've seen some of your work...very impressive{especially the router table...first class!!!}

Huron..that wasn't burnt in{though that might be cool}. I routed it out with a 1/8th" bit in my laminate trimmer. Hey toss them ideas out so we can think about stealing them...oops I mean borrow from them ;)

Jeez Kenny you're making us look bad with your awsome woodworking skills!

that dash looks amazing! I really like the wood rope trim....

thats the bummer with the cooler weather, some of the paint and gluvit type work has to wait for a warm shop or warm weather......Its kinda cool in your case because you now have all winter to make the little parts perfect.

Happy "Holiday"s :D

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Christmas songs I'd like to hear...
I'm dreaming of a short win-ter.
Deck the yard with 80 degrees.
All I want for christmas is some warmth outside.

Well, since I'm holed up inside the garage till who knows when...figured may as well dull some saw blades. For those who are not familiar with my set-up, there's just no room to squeeze the ol gal in here, besides the junk and should-be junk that resides in here, my playspace is only 20'x20'. And I'm too fat & old to be trying to squeeze around, over or under an 18'er.

Anyways, thought I'd use up some of the left-over ply from the Imperial's deck, transom & stringers, and decided to create a storage box of sorts to go amidships behind the dual pedestal seats I intend on having. Nothing fancy, just a place for spare parts, tools, flares, first-aid etc etc. I made it to a comfortable{imo} height, to use as a spare seat with the throwable cushion if needed. Still needs some finish work outside as well as some protection inside, but heres a look-see...

Anyways...Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas Holiday!!!

HopeSheFloats,
Well done, my friend. I really like that rope trim. A real nautical theme there. :D
All joking aside, very nice functional idea. :)

LOL Bob, & I still have about 50 feet or so...over-kill but I like it for now:rolleyes:. Just hope I can get that top trim to somewhat match...it's white oak and I wasn't even thinking about color-matching...

Kenny nice work man:) I like the old skool flasher. Does it go "ping...ping...ping?"

I have an older Lowrance finder that works great too. Cool box and very functional:D

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Thanks for looking guys, and razz away VPM, lol, that thing is so sensitive I can determine whether the fish it's located is male or female ;)

quote "LOTS OF BEER!!!!!!!!!!!" lol sad as it may sound, I don't drink alcohol while afloat, I do guzzle but just not off shore...not preachin, just seen too much sad/bad.

As to the bungee strap, yeah, been fishing/boating long enough to realize... everything in it's place and accessible...well, maybe it's more so because I'm getting more forgetful in my old age and my eyes aren't as sharp as they once were lol

H.A., it only pings on the mermaid setting ;)

Enjoy the holidays folks!!!

Thankyou Bob, right back at you & yours, may it be the best.
And to all here...The Mrs & I wish you all the best as well!

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and remember your local charities, some of them need more help than our boats...well, maybe not as much as my boat, but either way....cheers to all

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Nice find there. I almost bought that boat! I went in a different direction though and it didn't quite work out. The PO originally listed the boat on CL in the auto parts section by accident? My bro found it while looking at 9" rear ends for his Trans-Am. He really pushed me to buy it.

Well I'm glad to see it again. I can't wait to see it at the launch up close, it looks very cool. Where do you launch from? Metro, Harley, Crocker?

For the record you might want to just changed your log-in name to "Poo Bear". It will be easier than taking the name off the boat!:D

Good Luck,

Don

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Hi Don, don't know if that 'auto listing' was an accident or not, seems he buys and sells a few autos at what I'm guessing as a part time adventure, and {at least} this boat was totally unfamiliar to him from what I gathered dealing with him...it ain't purty, but hopefully it will be presentable when completed.

I put in all over the place, as you know we have plenty of ramps and I just go with which ever is closer to my fishing grounds of the day...from Alter road for Detroit river walleyes, all the way up to Fairhaven for Anchor bay musky teasing.

Oh yeah, you might want to read my response to Ezmobee on that poo bear stuff..LOL

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Thanks for looking Joe, yep...she'll be one of a kind for sure... at least with me behind the tools, LOL

Sorry no new pics to share, but I'm still moving somewhat forward...have rebuilt the carbs, just finished an overhaul on the waterpump assembly, now waiting on a intake manifold to crankcase gasket to finish up the carb job. Fuel pump replacement on tomorrow's agenda along with some more wire connection cleaning and the Mrs is taking the starter to work to have one of her customer/accounts put it thru a load test or whatever they do to see if it's reliable or not.

Other than that, not much going on except ihatewinteritis. I plan on plastering some paint on the outboard still this winter. And the nickel & dime stuff is starting to add up and I haven't even started on hull paint & prep, wiring{replacing po's nitemare}, seating, & on & on...sometimes it's all you can do to smile and stay focused on reaching some sort of a finish...lol I'm just glad I'm not alone here.

Hope everyones off to a great start this year......

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Kenny,
Thanks for posting the picture of your PFD throw rig. I would like to install a similar set-up in my boat and was wondering what was the white plastic device you used for holding the line. Is it a commercially available product or did you adapt something?
Tnx,
Tim
