Didn't touch her today, cleaned out the pond and rustled up some extras to throw in with the Imperial, and spent about 2 hrs trying to recall where I placed the paperwork for the imp as well...

Now for the good news bad news...sold the Imperial today{said with a big 'ol smile}....Bad news, gave the Imperial away today{said with pity pocket change in hand}...accepted $1000 from a 1200 asking price....I know I know, but, well, what can I say, when your unemployed, greens in the hand equal greens on the dinner plate.... Aw well, never one to dwell on the past has been my motto:rolleyes: 100% attention to the SC now, and some room to move coming shortly{I hope}...wife's looking forward to seeing the backyard again.

Just spent a good hour or so reading the entire thread. Great work! Loved the transom jack, new dash, bow body work and seeing all that shiny tin under the old paint.

Can't wait to see the rest of it take shape - gives me some inspiration to get my old Springbok tinny resto started.

Or...maybe I'll just open a beer...:rolleyes:

Good progress, keep it up. Like the simple gray white combo.

Hope you who celebrate it had a great one too!

Wife & I decided a nice quiet holiday at home was in order{for a change of pace}.....actually she wanted total control of the satellite remote control and you all know what I wanted, so again, it was a beautiful day{lol}

First off, I got the second coat of white on the hull...
2ndcoatwht.jpg

Then a little sanding and some primer on the 'accent' area...

Followed by 3 coats of Rustoleum 'Brilliant blue'{spray-can}...

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

I made a trip to HD and bought some foam...plan is to sandwich the cheap stuff in between the pink{hurts to be poor}...Don't know if I have enough, time will tell, hopefully get her flipped later this coming week, clean the inside, gluvit and then we'll find out...

Here's the supplies I used on the hull paint job{items representative, this was one of everything not a total} including the power washer in the background, I think this was everything...Murphy ate my orbital sander{the new one there I picked up today}
paintposse.jpg

this was the main ticket I believe...lay's the paint down nice!
foamroller.jpg

Spent some time cleaning the hubcaps I removed from the Imperial's trailer before I sold it....before shot{hard to see the filth & minor rust}...
hubcaps.jpg

after some steel wool and elbow grease...

Now I'm chillin here, digesting a great meal the Mrs put together and waiting on some desert{like I really need it..lol}

Enjoy what's left of a beautiful day everyone, I know I am!!!!

Looking great Kenny, that boat already looks custom with the blue stripe.:cool:

Congrats on selling the imperial, I agree with EZ, even though you had tons of work into her, good price to sell her with no motor.:)

Are you gonna throw on a few more coats of white or is it time to flip the hull?

Thanks H.A.{can I use your given name?}

Yeah I'm not too disappointed in the final price, just that hindsight of the work involved can get under one's skin. I ended up putting the tach back on her before she left, along with a mercrusier throttle control w/cables & harness, in return I kept the hubcaps, horn, trim gage, glovebox and few other odds and ends I can't recall at the moment, so all is well I guess...sure learned a lot from having it, never would of found this place most likely.

2 coats is all I plan, although I hear the F.A.A. recommends three for durability and rough landings {;)}

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Kenny, please please please do not put any of that white foam under your deck. I'd rather see you use nothing than that. It soaks up water like a SPONGE. I had it under the floor of my Jupiter when I got it. Soaked and heavy.

Your paint looks fantastic. You nailed that blue stripe. Awesome.

Kenny,

Looks Awesome!

If you need a strong back and a weak mind to get her flipped back over, give me a shout. Not far from ya!

Fantastic job. The boat looks great. Definately switch out the foam to the pink or blue as the non closed cell foam soaks up water...

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

FOAM...Friggin Obnoxious Amounta Money

I was thinking {I know I was, I could smell something burning at the time lol} sandwiching it would keep the majority of it dry, if the extruded was protecting it 'so to say'....used the line of thought that if h2o couldn't rise up or drip down on it, that things should stay relatively dry. It's not like any deck is 'totally' waterproof, and all of these{mine included} that had wet foam surely didn't get that way overnight. My Imperial was 30yrs old and this Starcraft will be 50 yrs old{next yr} and the Sc showed way less lower water marks than the Imp. I imagine it comes down to proper care & storage.

I am a cheapskate normally, and this economy hasn't been exactly nice to me either, but.....trusting in your all's experience I will change it out for peace of mind....that, and the fact I luv going to home deepo. :D

Thanks again for the help, & btw, was my line of thinking justifiable to a point or more similar to Red Greens? :redface:

I don't know, my line of thinking is that if it GOT wet, it would help it STAY wet.

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

It's sick how expensive that stuff is. I though it was cheap and got a big surprise when I picked up mine like you did.

I always liked the Red Green show as goofy as it was there was always something funny in there :)
