I painted the hull of the Sea King tonight. Of course, it wasn't without a glitch.

I was painting along one side and accidently knocked my paint pail over and spilled most of it. I saved some.... I was able to finish what I started and the top half of the other side. I went to Lowe's and purchased another can. Smart, eh?? Quite a few stones are now Hunter Green...

I finished painting the lower half before it got too dark. It was 80's here today so it dried quickly. It looks good but definitely needs another coat; it should look great. I used a foam roller and it smoothed out very well. I will give it the second coat tomorrow. No pics tonight, too late!!

I applied the second coat of paint tonight. It's not perfect but it looks good. The weather might have been a bit warm - it dried pretty quick. Overall I'm happy with it. The 'ol Sea King has a lot of "character"..... The lighting makes it look like there are large dents, but there aren't. I'll let it dry a few days and flip it over and paint the inside.

Looks good,

One thing, I would make sure and seal the edges of the paint where you taped around the numbers, so the paint won't come loose in that area, edges of paint no matter how well applied with weather at those sharp cuts.

But I like the color, it came out good.

I painted the first coat of Smoky Gray on the inside of the Sea King tonight. Looks pretty good.... I will post a pic tomorrow. It was too dark when I quit.

Driving to New York this weekend and will be bringing the Scott-Atwater home.

It's been a few days since I've updated.... I finished painting the inside a few days ago and also painted the top edge and lip that extends inside - Hunter Green. Looks good!!

I tried to install the transom today but hit a snag. The transom was 1/4" too high - it wouldn't let the cap sit level. It was level with the edge of the stern but angled high. As a result, the end caps would not sit flush on the edge of the boat. I had to cut 1/4" off the transom and re-coat with urethane. It'll need 2 more coats. Bummer. And I have to buy 4 longer SS bolts to go through both transom boards.

I had painted the nose piece and set it on the front but it looked awful. The front of the nose had damage and it really shows. I'm trying to use JB Weld to re-form the nose.

I installed two of the seat boards and they fit well though there isn't support under the back seat. When the PO moved the seat forward he got rid of the flotation box. I need to build a new one.

A few steps forward and a couple small setbacks. I hope to splash the Sea King Saturday.... Keep ya posted!! I'll post pics Tuesday - more rain tomorrow......

Hey Cool,

See if you can find some MDO plywood to build your Seat box out of. I really like this stuff. Multiplys Very little voids. Uses marine grade Glue Super Flat and Stays that way. They use it to make road signs. Beautiful to work with. Little pricey but not to bad and well worth it when comes time to workin with it. Check it out, and GET THOSE PICS POSTED

Work is progressing on the Sea King. I have to make a new transom cap..... It is too thick and it prevents the end caps from setting flush on the stern. The friend that made it said he will make another one.

I originally painted the bow and end caps gray but decided to repaint them Hunter Green to match the boat. I used a spray can and it's a tad darker but it will be fine. I made a new flotation box today in spite of my rudimentary carpentry skills. I will sand it in a couple days and paint it gray.

I built a motor stand last week using plans provided by dhwinn79. Thanks for the plans! It is holding my Scott-Atwater and 65MX Minn Kota.

I hope to splash the Sea King next Sunday.

Been a few days since an update. Still waiting for the friend to make a new transom cap. I braced the front seat with 2x3's, protected with 3 coats of Helmsman. I removed the registration stickers, cleaned the glue off (what a pain!!) and primed the area. I'm painting those spots to match the boat. They looked pretty bad. The pic is before the priming.

I hope to splash the Sea King next Saturday!!

Alright coolness, I've been silent long enough. You've done a beautiful job on this boat and your big ugly registration numbers are a crime against your great work. Let's get those things chiseled off, sanded, painted, and replaced with some nice white letters.

Yes Ezmobee. Thanks!! Those registration numbers are coming off soon. I should have removed them before I painted it.... They are ugly.....

Nice work there Coolness, and don't feel bad about the tacky letters.

My 12' tinny has mailbox letters on the back for the name of the boat that need to be replaced with something that looks a little nicer too
