1963 Johnson 40hp

Went out fishing today and on the way back in hit rock in shallows. Now I have lower unit oil dripping out from prop??? Didnt break anything but it killed motor but she fired right back up. Any ideas?????

Sounds like a bad prop seal. Does that motor have the gearcase that splits horizontally? If so, the fix is pretty easy. You might look around for a seal kit

I thought it might be the prop seal but dont know if it splits horizontally??? If it dont is it pretty hard???

not hard at all. seal comes out and new one pressed in. o ring around the housing and I like to use some permatex no 2 around it also.
