The OEM carburetor kit is #382048 and comes with the float. The floats are cork, sealed in shellac that dissolves in alcohol, so they don't last long.

The aftermarket kits don't have the float and after you buy a float separately you will pay a lot more than you would for the OEM kit.

Find a local dealer and save the shipping cost here: http://dealerlocator.evinrude.com/en/410000.shtml
Select the third item and use the area code for a better selection.

When you rebuild the carburetor, be sure to use the clip that connects the float arm to the needle.

Seems like the pump I got was already purchased once and returned. I think it has been taken apart and imporperly assembled. This one leaks and won't make pressure. I tried to reassemble it so it works but can't find any info anywhere including Sierra marine who should have a schematic on how this pump shuld go together.

Very frustrating!

I called Sierra and they said this pump won't work, because the engine does not have enough compression. I don't by the excuse! They also couldn't supply a schematic for the proper assembly of the pump so after several attempts I got it to work.

Now it seems to run up at WOT, however when I put the cover on the engine the idle goes way down and almost dies. Could this because I'm running it in a tank and it is getting a lot of fumes back? It never seemed to run different at idle before while in the water where I keep it. Anyway at least it seems to no longer have a lack of fuel.

Thanks,

The fumes leaking in are definitely worse when running in a bucket, but there are a number of places where exhaust can enter, including the accordian type exhaust relief hose inside the cowl.

There is a seal that is often missed at the top of the water pump, another rubber seal that circles the water tube and the shift rod, and a large one that circles the inner exhaust and seals it to the outer cover of the midsection.

All of the 9.5 motors use the same carburetor repair kits so they are pretty consistent. I think that the 1968 parts manuals will suffice for diagrams except for the mounting sytems. The covers on the later models have the clamp on the midsection instead of on the cover like yours and the tiller handles are different.

...Just for info, the '64 wasn't very good at idle. Terrible excuse for a vibration damper on that one. They shook too badly and the flywheel couldn't carry it over compression at slow speeds because the powerhead just twisted aside, out of the way so to speak.

Dad had his 1965 Johnson 9? retrofitted at the local Johnson dealer with a special ?vibration isolation kit?. There were new motor mounts I believe. The tell-tale for the kit as I recall were 4 bolts through the forward part of the engine casing on either side of the swivel bracket (2 visible on either side, arranged vertically). I don?t know if it was done in the late sixties or early seventies. Let me tell you I have piloted many 9?s, but dad?s was the smoothest running by far (and it had a lot of hours on it). It has been quite a few years since I?ve driven one however. Just an FYI.

Anybody care to comment on the kit? Has anybody heard of it?
