Progress is progress even if it ain't the boat Jim. That does look like a real awsome drive. I think you should try it in a big rig with a set of B-trains at 62500 kg's.:help::lol:

Hey Glen... thanks for bumping along...!

Been a crazy busy bit here... my daughter slipped on ice and broke her wrist... so it has been sorta one thing after the other. Good news is that things are working themselves out! And everyone is either mending or mended!!!

Still on target for the first week of March. Reno's INSIDE the house are much slower than those in the Garage!! Just got trim, paint, shelving to put up and a small desk to build and it's done. So... 60+%.

I pickup the etching paint and primer for the inside of the hull I said I was going to do tomorrow... but we are travelling for a bit family wise. The following weekend I have the pleasure of working the whole weekend! But the great news is that I will be able to get on the boat right after that!!!!!

Can't tell you how much I am looking forward to getting back at it!

Ahhhh true... but all part of life! What's the saying... what doesn't kill you makes you stronger?! The Admiral is doing well, the first mate is doing well... just got a little girl with a busted wrist... but otherwise she is healthy and strong! A few weeks and she will be back at it 100%!!!

Picking up the paint tonight and really, really looking forward to getting at it soon!

Ok fella's... had some thinking time on the boat on Monday and since I have decided to go with two 5 gallon tanks I was wondering if there is some kind of switch/valve that I can plug both tanks into so that when one tank is done, the switch can just be turned to the other without having to disconnect and reconnect the fuel hose to the engine.

Even better (if it works) would be to be able to suck fuel from both tanks evenly so that I do not have to turn a switch.

I think drawing from two tanks will work.











Until one runs dry. Then all you will get is air from the empty tank. :grumpy:








But there is always a solution. Jason used a valve to switch but the bottom feeder way is use a fitting to tie the tanks together. Open the vent on one tank and when you run dry or get close to empty, close the vent and open the vent on the second tank and keep motoring.

I think this would cause an air leak into the system when one tank is low or out and create a lean running condition. Not good.

If you wanted to run one line and two tanks it would work if the tank were connected with a line connecting both tanks at or near the bottom. Fuel is drawn from one tank, the level in both tanks would be equal until gone. Both vents are open. O__O

You can't do that with portables and in non-portables bottom feeding will suck all the dirt and crud.

Until one runs dry. Then all you will get is air from the empty tank.

That's why I said open/close vents. No fuel or air will be drawn from the tank with the closed vent. Unless you have leaky vents.

Could also try drawing from one tank with the vent on the first tank hooked to the pick up on the second. That should draw both tanks down evenly.

I used a brass T-fitting and two ball valves on my last boat for the dual 12-gallon tanks. I still used a quick connect fitting going from the T to the engine but used standard brass barbed fittings on the ball valves for the fuel lines going to each tank and the quick connect fittings on the tanks. Just close the ball valve for the empty tank and open the one for the full tank. I fabbed up a small bracket & mounted the T/ball valve assembly to an easy to reach splashwell support. Never gave me any trouble. Just make sure the fuel lines are not going to chafe on anything.

Great info there guys! Hmmmmmmm..... some stuff to think about. A single portable tank of say 9 gallons would work --- just lugging it in and out --- not sure about the portability. May just stew some more on this one... Gotta think about the consequences of running dry vs filling challenges. Maybe a 9 gallon isn't all that heavy. Hmmmmmmm.

I always like a reserve. In my first boat I carried 2 gallons spare in a plastic gas can under the splash well. In the Mariner I have a 3 gallon portable tank that is tucked under the back seat. Used the 2 gallon twice in 8 years and have yet to use the 3, but it is nice knowing its there if needed.

I like having 2 tanks just in case 1 tank has problems. I had the pick up tube break off in a portable 6-gallon tank. And it was nice to have a second 6-gallon tank onboard. I then replaced the dual 6-gallon tanks with dual 12-gallons and still carried the good 6-gallon as a spare. I had to use it several times. I am looking into different options for the '66 Jupiter that I'm restoring. Need a lot of fuel capacity but don't really want all the extra weight in the rear of the Starcraft. May have to mount a permanent tank under the floor on this one.
