Parrisw,

Looks like you did pretty good. I forgot to tell you it's a lot easier if you measure your transom height and drill you holes so your lower bolt will rest on the top of the transom. Makes attaching em a lot easier. As long as you have 18 to 24 inches above the transom you will have enough to tighten.

Thanks. I thought about it quite a bit, and came up with that measurement, the clamps are 48" long, and the threaded rods are spaced 16" apart, and give plenty of clamping force!

Got the transom finished sanded tonight and about 8" all around for tabbing in. Now just to glue it in.

Well, got the transom glued in this morning, only a little panic set in, LOL. I had about 3.5L of resin mixed then added the cabosil, and ran out!!!!!!! Wasn't thick enough, so I dumped in all the milled fibers I had, and then went to the shop vac to get all the fiberglass grinding dust to put in there, still was thinner then I would of liked, but it went well, got a good thick layer, it oozed out the holes in the transom and out the sides pretty good, I was careful not to squeeze it too much and have it all come out. Next on to rebuild the stringers.

Thanks!

At this point I wish I made more clamps, but it'll be good enough I think. There are a couple of spots that it is not perfectly flat. Oh well, Still will be way better then before.

Hey Dude,

It will be fine! I think ya dun rite good!!!! Now mix up some PB an fillet in the sides and bottom. I would suggest using big plastic spoons to make your fillets. Makes a nice smooth concave fillet and they are disposable and CHEAP!

Yup that's next, going to wait a bit till this sets, then I can take the clamps off and work around the transom and fillet it out nice. Thanks for the tip on the spoons.

Clamps off, looks good, now just need to fillet the edges, then a layer of mat, then I'm going to tab it in with some 4" 1708 tape.

Should I do a layer of woven over the transom as well? Or just matt.

So any particular order in which I should glass in the transom?

I got done the fillet's tonight. I was just going to do a layer of matt, then a layer of woven, then tab in with 1708. Does this sound ok?

Ok, just checked the fillets, and I got some small cracking going on? I assume this is due to heat during curing? Is this bad? Can I just glass right over the cracks?

Thanks

I would mix up a little more pb and fill the cracks then sand it all smooth. Then lay your mat, then the woven. I would seriously consider tabbing more like 8 to 10 inches instead of the 4 inch tape. Your transom is the MOST important part of your boat and you want it to be attached as strong as possible.

Ok, thanks! 8-10" eh, what should I tab with then, just the woven? I hope I can use this biax somewhere, maybe to tab in the floor? You should of seen the tab before, 1 measly 3" tab with some dry layup!

Re: 1965 Johnson Tri-Hull restore!

I would use it for the first layer of the tab. but i would then put another 6 inch tab and then on more 10" tab. the Woven would be ok. I might be a little anal and over kill but....
