Next up is the Glass windshield I found for $90 from a wrecked 65 PacificMariner and the rub rail.
Does anybody have any tips on installing Taco vinyl rub rails?

Is it the whole r/r or just the inserts .. I think placing it in hot water for a while from what I've heard helps it bend around the corners ....

Got the windshield on!!.. yea. Boy that can be a bugger by yourself. Glass shield is kind of heavy and awkward to go up a ladder and step over the splash well.

It has 8 studs sticking out of the bottom for mounting. I used 1/16" balsa 4x48 sheets (I build lots of R/C planes) to make a pattern to transfer to the deck. I then drilled the 8 holes with a 1/4" bit.

The other bugger that took 4 days to sort out was that sounder was not working on my GPS/depth unit. The previous owner cut the cable from the head unit and hard wired in the transponder (then added a separate depth gauge and transponder). Problem was the wire colors change between the plugs which were cut out. Garmin seems to not have any info wire colors to transponders just pin out numbers. Long story longer.. It works now after grounding the temp sense wire (transponder does not have a temp sensor).

More to come.

On to the trailer.
Needless to say 49years have not been kind to it.

The back 2/3 of it has been replaced using 3" 4.1# structural C channel. I usually would use my MIG welder. With the rain and wind I had to switch over to flux cored wire. Not a big deal for strength but causes a bit more clean up of the welds after.

Got the 69merc tuned up. Seats are in (the playwood was also rotted in the seats). Done with all the electrical. Final thing to do is the rub rail and in the water it goes.. :)

Got it in the water!
My wife and I went to the boat ramp and two or friends were walking by and joined in on the fun.
First problem was getting the old girl merc to hold a steady idle when going into gear. I had to disconnect the throttle linkage and blip the throttle a few times because it was loaded up with fuel.. Reset the idle speed and mix and it was not a problem for the rest of the day. Hole shot was great and got on plan real quick. With 4 people on board (combined weight of about 780 lbs) 5 gals in the forward and 6 gals in the rear tanks of fuel. It did a gps speed of 34mph with the engine at 4600rpm 12.75 x 19 prop. It will usually just be my wife and i on the boat so I may leave the prop alone for now.
Funny thing I was not nervous about going in the water at all.. hard work pays off.

I forgot to add.
Steering is easy to do by palming the wheel. I has a teleflex non-feed back unit in it and it handles like it has power steering. The ride is really smooth and not a drop of water on the windshield when cutting through chop/waves.
