These motors ( in good condition ) are very reliable and simple to maintain too.----Fill lower unit with type -C gear oil for outboard use.-----Yes you can pull start the motor with no battery attached.

You can not hook up any kind of manual cable to shift this motor.----Needs 12 volts to green for forward.----And 12 volts to blue for reverse.-----Needs a working belt driven generator as well.----Your location ?------Best to do a complete evaluation before spending any beer tokens on it.----Post compression numbers.---Test shift coils.----Pull flywheel and inspect ignition coils.----Install a new water pump impeller before launching the boat with this motor.

Finding a push button shift control box may be a challenge.-----Finding a junction box with a good voltage regulator may be a challenge.----First determine if motor is going to be a runner !!

in my opinion the best vintage motors are the ones without electric shift and a generator. nothing wrong with them if you know what your doing, just alot of headaches and parts availability woes if you do not.

Put a 12 volt battery negative to the engine block.-----Put 12 volts to green wire.----Prop should turn clockwise with slight drag.-----Lock up turning counter clockwise.----Repeat test for blue wire.----Should be opposite of course.
