Re: 1966 Jupiter Restoration

Ezmobee like the fuel tank set up you had. I was thinking with the tank I have for the boat I would cut a hole in the bow and have a built in fill spout'

I just got back from picking up my power plant for my jupiter. It's a 1991
75 hp Mercury with power tilt and trim. I also got all the controls to operate the motor and steering. All for $275.00 and it works. This was a good find.

You stole that motor!

As for your fuel fill idea...go for it! My Jupiter actually had one there when I bought it. No tank though. I ended up mounting my horn in the filler hole.

i am thinking of doing the same thing on my jupiter... if the 30 gal tank i have fits up under the bow. how do you plan on running your fuel line?

and that deal on the motor is AWESOME! a few weeks ago i picked up a 70 evinrude 85hp with tnt for $180, not sure if it runs though... havent had time to tinker with it.

If you are having problems with the position of the tank to the fill spout, just go to the local muffler shop and have them bend you a piece of the appropriate size exhaust tubing in the shape you need, then just join it with two straight sections of rubber hose. In the 25 years I spent in the exhaust business we did hundreds of them.

HAVE ANY OF YOU GUYS THOUGHT OF OR USED RHINO LINER/LINEX ON THE FLOOR OR SIDE WALLS OF YOUR BOATS? I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE BETTER THAN RESIN/GLASS. wHAT DO YOU THINK? i MIGHT TRY IT ESPECIALLY ON THE FLOOR BOTH TOP AND BOTTOM.

i wouldnt use the rhino liner... like pugetsound said weight will be an issue, as well as you would NOT want black... it will get soooooooo hot... and the tintable ones are alot more expensive. there probably wont be much cost difference between it and going the epoxy/glass route with porch paint and sand for the deck.

Re: 1966 Jupiter Restoration

Today I found out that if I change the jets in the carborators on my 75 hp mercury I can increase the hp to 100. I think I will do this when I rebuild them. The only thing I think I will have to do is beef up the transom.

I would double check in the Mercury forum before you did that. I'm not necessarily doubting you, I just know that the subject comes up often in the J/E section (like converting a 90 to a 140 or something crazy) and it's usually disproven or shown to cause a poorly running engine. Just double check. That would be sweet though.

Hey guys have any of you used aluminium for flooring rather than wood? It maybe costly but in the long run it maybe better overall. Any thoughts? If Iwere to use aluminium I think I would cover it with an indoor outdoor carpet.

Jupiter's were closed bow. The open version was the 16' SS. Same hull.
