Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild

One of these days soon, you will be out there with your family doing the same thing having a blast.

I am way looking forward to that day man!

Man you are doing a great job there Jason. Hope mine turns out half as good as yours and I will be very happy buddy.

Wow! How long have I been out on that lake???

Everytime I check in on ya, looks like a whole new boat has appeared?

Nice work Jas! Keep it up buddy.

You fellas are being awfully generous with your compliments. Not so sure we are looking at the same rig? Trust me, she'll be a simple fishing tub and not a thing more;)

Good choice on the plastic drain tubes. Wish I had known about them when I bought my brass ones, would have saved me a whole lot of grief. Also good idea to drill acouple holes for drainage in your transom shelf. My 64 doesn't have a shelf, it just sits on top of the 3 knee braces.

Yah, the plastic tubes just seemed to make sense anyway.

Great work jas. I love the look. Is your transom 191/2" like lakelovers?

Yup, mine is a 20 incher so I'm all good there. I kinda hit ya back at post #529.

AM progress, transom is all bolted up. Big gobs of 5200 all over the place...

Had just enough time to get the those fat U bolt tie downs installed too (ganked from the 4Winns). I opted to just use the side bolt holes and make them bigger rather than drill out two pairs of new ones.

That transom is feeling super solid in there. Almost like it wants some hp bolted to it;):D

Those U-bolts looks HUGE on the Jet:)

Nothing like some good over-building. Nice work, I agree that the all-aluminum transom looks great.:D

When I look at those U Bolts I always think...

"BEEF. IT'S WHATS FOR DINNER."

Keep rollin' Jas - the kids are back in school and the snow is on it's way!

Dood, at all the lumber yards this week, I have been seeing them pushing grills out of the way to make room for the snow blowers:eek: Is it that time already!

Looks nice jas.

Morning progress: Screwed that splashwell flange to the transom. SS screws all goobed up with 5200...

When I drilled these holes out in that flange I set them at every inch. Well, you can see I started out screwing in at every one in the center. I kinda figured over kill. So, I ended up going every other hole towards the outside. Still bomber.

You can see that I still have clean up duty for paint prep in there but the slow march continues fellas.

I also grabbed this giant box with my name on it today...

Hmmmmmmmm, I wonder what could be in there;):D

Well wouldn't ya know it!

Now, I already have a dog, cat and three kiddos so no room at the inn. I decided to let him go free. We have a healthy group of coyotes in our area so I am sure they will take in their own kind. That should work well.

Got the Minn Kota unpacked this morning. Low and behold, first thing I notice, the indicator cap is cracked...

Poop. Ah well, I am sure they will make it right. Just one more thing to do.

Did a little fitting just to see how it would sit on the bow there...

Like it:D

I really wanted to see how this would sit - I wasn't so sure if it would cover these 4 holes up or not...

Looks like I need to close them all up. Wasn't sure before, now I know.

Aw snap! Too bad about the broken top - musta been loaded or unloaded by a gorilla. Betcha money it still works flawlessly, but definitely return it for a minty one. Looks like a good fit on top of the gunwale there. Nice.

Coyotes eh? Man they're everywhere nowadays - you don't even need a hunting license in MN to shoot 'em anymore. I think you need to wait for 'em to get fluffy this winter then make your wife a new rug for the floor in front of the fireplace.

The Minn Kota looks great on the bow. The Jet is gonna be a real nice fishing rig:D

The walleye won't stand a chance.

Bummer on the cracked arrow thingamabobber.

Yah, it's easy to see this motor is a tough piece of equipment but that little direction indicator cap is easily the most fragile piece. Just called em, they are sending me the pieces. If I can't fix it I can take it to a local dealer to be fixed. Extra steps I don't really need but I am in no rush, no biggie.

I have been at this place four years now. I hear them at night but have yet to see em. The whole neighborhood knows when they make a kill.

That tm sitting there gave me a little glimpse at the finish line. Yah, I think she'll be a comfortable rig to fish from:)

Yah, I was actually just trying to pick it off my fingers here a second ago. I got a big glob of it on my leg that i didn't notice till later, some manhood came with it when I ripped it off.

Side note: I ended up buying a cartridge of regular (not fast cure) 5200 from one of the local Home Depot stores (the other doesn't sell it). I really like working with it. Pushing it out of the calk gun is a bit easier than the smaller tube. Less messy too. The slow cure time is nice when I am slow to wipe down the fittings and such. Gives a much bigger working window which is nice. I know it'll take forever to cure but it's easy to move on to other stuff while it does. Anyway, I do like working with it.

=) Just pokin' at you. In other news, I am sad to admit I may be helping work on a (gasp) Starcraft the next few weeks. A buddy borrowed another friend's Holiday and asked if I wanna help him get it ready for splash before winter hits in N Idaho and maybe do some fishing this fall. It's rough and not pretty, and he's gonna keep it that way, just make sure it's safe. Transom and deck are showing age, but solid, so good for another few seasons if not left in the weather. I just don't know what to think when I tap the hull and it reminds me of beer cans instead of giving me invisible splinters....
