DB,
I don't think I've seen a picture or brochure of an 8-teen (other than mine) that has a bow rail on it. I'm not real sure I like it. I'll be able to tell more after she's painted and put back together. You get first dibbs if you want.

I would take 'em off your hands. Check out my photobucket in the update thread and you can see what I've been doing to mine on the bow area.

Hey DB,
I've been following your photobucket and that is some great craftsmanship. I have pulled off the bow rails to prepare for painting and I think I like the boat better without the rails. Still interested?

My boat is hanging in a shop so I could ready the trailer to go to New Jersey this weekend to pick up an 8-teen parts boat. We're making it a family 3 day get away to go somewhere we haven't been yet. My intent is to strip it of the engine, gimble housing and transome bracket, throttle control and cables, gauges, bow light, windshield and sliding hardtop. That's a hun worth isn't it?

Ok, guys! You make me feel like the laziest guy in the world. What I find hard to believe, is how different OUR 8teens are. I have an ALL blue with a white top. My seat are cut out at factory and I stow gear under them. I am also looking for the bow lights. ORG. Mine came without any rails on the front, but did have two spotlights on each side, of which I have found only one so far. I am taking care of someone with cancer, so my time is very limited as of late. I tried to start, my less the 50 hour, new 140 and of course, it did not want to fire!!!! Oh, well, another day. I had my cables replaced two years ago and still not adjusted correctly. Not having good look with shops in the Kimberling City area, and my time is limited. I have really enjoyed visiting all the your posts. And look forward to reading and learning more in the future. I have had my boat for some years now and glad to see all the other owners here. Cannot seen to fine and pics, but will have to get some on here soon. Good Luck and catch you all later.

Hey nextdoor,
Please post some pics. I would like to see the differencies myself. I have 2 of the 8-teens now and they are different which I will be posting the updates to that project next. I was able to get a parts boat that had the bow light...it will need to be re-dipped but it's an original light.

Can't wait to see the pics.

Re: 1968 8-teen project

Hey Guys,
I finally got to New Jersey and picked up the parts boat. That's a long haul from Southwest Va to New Lisbon NJ to get the boat, and then to Hoboken NJ to go to Carlo's Bake shop (Cake Boss, TLC) (did I mention I took the fam?) and then back home...in 3 days. The boat hull is so bad that just to get parts within the boat was all it is going to be good for. I have pics attached of what the boat looked like before I got there and I'll have more pics on Saturday after I finish pulling everything off that I need. I may have some good parts that I will not need that I may try to sell to re-coup some of the money spent to get the boat.

I'm finding that my hardtop is 70" measured from front to back in the middle of the top, and the boat I just got has a hardtop that measures 64.5". The side windows are different sizes in the 2 hardtops. Not sure why the size differences for what sould be the same boat.

I did get the winshield off and it looks like it's going to clean up pretty good. It actually had the middle glass and bracket that I will be able to use on mine or use it as a template to make one.

More pics coming.

DB,
PM me your contact info and I'll contact you about the bow rails.

Re: 1968 8-teen project

Here are a few pics of the parts boat I got from NJ after I removed everything I needed. I wished I could have used this boat as the transome was as solid as the day it was new. But the use of a front end loader to move it around damaged the hull real bad. I got everything I needed and also have some spare parts. Next step is to take this one to the land field so I can get the restore back on the trailer.

Anybody need a fixer upper??:D

I still have not been able to get photos, as the boat has returned to the shop after a 10 min. outing. One problem solved, (burning up points) and now working on the u-joints. Hope to be on the water again soon.

Rick - I was looking at the pics in your earlier post and completely overlooked what you said about the rails. After 5 - 6 tries I think I succeeded in sending you a pm from my dumbphone.

I apologize for the slow reply. I just missed it.

I bet I'll have to get a different cover with the taller rails. My wife will be just thrilled with that idea.

Re: 1968 8-teen project

Hey everyone,
Summer's almost over and I didn't get as far on the boat that I would have liked with vacations, yard work and such. I actually took about a 3 month break from her after going to Jersey.

I have recently started working on her again and making some progress. I had to take the transome out as there was hardly any wood left in it...completly rotted out.(pics attached) I cut out the floor under where the motor is to pull out that foam and it was full of water and fuel. Still a little of that to pull and then on to the next thing...the bottom of the hull.

DB,
I did get the PM and I'll call you so I can get the bow rails to you. I've been trying to get the rail anchors off but the screws have rusted so bad they won't budge. I'll either have to crawl up in the bow with the cutting tool or use a drill bit on the screws.

I'd go for the drill fro the topside. That bow section is no place for full sized people. I still have spider bites from my last foray into neverland. I never imagined 30+ year old fiberglass could still be waxy an offgassing. It was pretty rich in there with the resin and silicone.
Come tothink of it, I may have left a tool behind and need togo back in and look for it for awhile.

Hey Ricks, just catching up on your work. I had my transome replaced, but it was very minor compaired to yours. Just alittle rot aroung the seal. But had the larger section replaced. I sure admire your staying with it. Good luck.
