So I want to change the oil in the bottom end of my motor but I cannot find much if any info on how to do it on this engine.
I tried to find it in the manual that Wog had given me a link to but could not. (not saying it isn't there, I just didn't find it.
I did find 2 screws on the bottom end. one says level and the other is right at the very bottom underneath. (see pictures)
Now I am assuming to drain the oil both these screws need to come out.
But to fill, do you put the bottom plug back in and fill from the top ??
I have read some thread where there is an oil fill tool that you screw into the bottom threads and fill until the oil comes out the level hole.
I am not sure which way it is done on these 33 hp motors
Help and direction is always appreciated :)

This hole says LEVEL

The screw on the bottom is the drain screw. The one up above the plate is the vent screw. Take them both out to drain. To fill, lightly seat the vent screw, and pump new oil in the bottom until it runs out of the vent. Close the vent screw, and replace the drain screw. It's a good idea to replace the washers when changing out the oil.

Don't do anything with the other screw on the gearcase (the one at the skeg).

Thank you for the quick response oldboat1
That other screw has a philips head and from what I've read of those it is for the f/n/r fork and if you take that out you have to take the whole bottom end apart to reinstall that fork.
So I will need the oil pump that screws into the bottom drain hole. And I was at Bass Pro Shop today too.........
Without having one to look at, what are those washers made from ???

You're welcome! Bummer on the second trip. On the other hand, an excuse to go back and check out a few other necessities...

The pump and plunger is a little less messy. Threads should be standard, but can always pull out the plugs and take one with you to be sure. (With some patience, can usually get that pivot pin back in without disassembly, but aggravating mistake.)

The crush washers are a nylon material. They are a one time use, as when you tighten them, they crush and seal the hole. Very hard to re crush them. Toss them, and buy new.

The pump is MUCH easier to use than the tube. The tube is messy and a pain. The pump threads in the bottom drain hole, pump until oil runs out the vent hole. Install the vent screw, then remove the pump, and thread in the drain screw.

Thanks once again for the info.
I was looking in the Boat Parts section of this site and from what I could tell from the part numbers, those allen head screws should fit this old motor if I wanted to convert over.
I will take the vent plug out and stop at a parts store this week to see if I can find the correct washers.
Also have to find one of those pumps now.

Picked up a pump today at Princess Auto, plastic washers and a bottle of marine outboard gear oil.
I did take the level plug out tonight and the washers I bought are all wrong, too big and much thicker than the original one. Good thing it was only $3 for 6 of them.
The pump adapter doesn't seem to screw in too far ( I blame this on the high quality chinese made adapter threads) but I think will still work.
Is the Castrol oil a good brand for the bottom end?
I just bought one 500 ml bottle and it is going to take more than that to fill ( about 800 ml total).

The washers you need are part #0311598. If the pump isn't screwing in far enough, check to make sure there's not an old crush washer still in there. That oil is fine.

Thanks for the part # Lindy.
I took the washer out, it's just the crappy threads on the adaptor.
I can get it to screw in enough where I think it will seal, so I'll get some washers and give it a try.
