Looking good Azlo. funny I was at HD tonight and was looking at plywood while I was picking up a few things and liked the look of that birch plywood also. I saw you used it and wondered if there was a reason to use it. stronger or just looks good or both. keep up the great work.

Birch ply is usually used for cabinets & furniture were looks is a must. I just used it cause it was already cut & the price. But from what I understand birch is prone to rot, so encapsulation is critical. My transom is gonna be all white. Sorry but thats all iknow v8mgbal.

Nice work. That transom will be around for some time to come considering the extra thought put into it like epoxy brushing the bolt holes.

I cut my 1/2 inch backing plate larger as well. I did it in three pieces to be used for backing for a possible ladder, etc. Had I thought about it more I would have went to a larger piece as well for the extra rigidity.

Looks good, nice work on the transom. Looks ready to bolt on, and should be in service for a long, long time.:)

Well,, with all the epoxy it made things difficult.

MAH006321.jpg

Tansom was harder to slide in because it was thicker.

MAH006322.jpg

MAH006324.jpg

SO had use hammer. Right the hammer. Finally it slid in.

Now installing bolts was another thing. Now i had to move the transom by milimeters in order to get the bolts to slide in. Finally nice and tight fit. Gonna do some touch up painting and then moving on to the transom housing.

We're going to get years of enjoyment out of the boats so it's short term pain and long term gain.

Another big milestone crossed off.

Azlo you're doing a super job there. I'm impressed with you're workmanship. Just remember you will always be you're harshest critic, at least that's the way it is with me. Great paint job and style. What I like most about this resto thread is how much you love working on this boat.

Keep on keepin' on my Starcraft bro.

ANd the hinge tool.

I was one happy camper till I got to removing the hinge bolts. The bolts striped!!

Both sides. Crap man, murphy just likes me. So now what do I do... hit the research button. Will be back with more news or pics.

AFter some research found ot that this bolts strip all the time. And u have to use heat!! So i got my propane out & hheat away. Let take a moment to vent.. this hinge pin tool, from my experience isnt worth the box it was shipped in. The half inch allen socket was what worked for me. The diffrence i noticed was the hinge tool fit loosely while the allan socket was tighter. Now it might be because the bolts are stripped but the allen socket beat the crap out of murphy today.

Used a brekaer bar and.....

MAH006394.jpg

used also my maps gas.

MAH006396.jpg

vooalah!! Bolt came out,no striping, little stress. This was a KO in the second round. So now that I wasfeeling good again. I went ahead & removed the bellows.

On a side note I noticed that my fork was loose and you could move it back & forth in the housing. So I loosened the steering shaft & then retighned.

When you get on a roll you keep going. Somedays it's an uphill battle and on those days it's best to just go watch a movie with a beer :)
