Yes sa, im on the roll. I was gonna buy an 80$ slide hammer to take the gimbal bearing out, but I gambled on an idea. When to the hardware & got 2" washers & bolts to go with it.

Believe it or not I drove the old bearing out with 3 hits with my mallot!!! What?!?!
It worked!!

I dont understand that it was this simple. Surely theres something im missing. I know I will have to replace this seal.

But other than that,whats up?

I decided to go ahead & inspect closely the housing & components. Im glad I did. I dont know why I didnt catch this but the shift cable had a broken bolt in it.

MAH006492.jpg

I had to brake the lever , so now on my list to get, i have included shift cable lever & bushings.

Evrything else in the bell housing looks good. Moved on the housing unit. Removed the gimbal bearing seal and decided that I should inspect the fork bearings. So I removed the fork even after I had adjusted it.

IM gonna put all of these in the parts washer & let them soak & do some further inspection.

Re: 1968 Holiday Restoration w/pics

After the last pic I noticed I need more lighting. Went to home depot & Got me some t8s to light. During the week i had left my bell housing in the parts washer. I got tired of experimeting with degreasers that I just gave up & used straight laundry soap!!! SO today when i removed my parts, not only were they degreased but they were smelling good!.

I was surprised at how clean my parts. Nice. So with that done I sanded my parts a little & Zinc chromated them.

MAH006573.jpg

Then Painted them with rustoleum blue. They turned out great.

Looks like painting skills are improving.:) Once assembled I will recoat again. I hope you are all having a good weekend as I am.

The blue end result it fantastic. I think you can safely go much lighter on the ZC primer though.

Good choice on the T8s Azlo..lol.
Yes, I am the only guy here that cares about that little blurb! lol

What did you put up? there are 700 series (about 75 cri) and then a specific color temp..as in 35k...41k...5,000k...

From the looks in the pic..I think you have 41k's, which is pretty decent for a garage..

BTW..my garage has the crappiest lighting in the world...go figure

No...ya done good, the 6500K is really up there in the kelvin scale.
Auto paint shops use a 90 cri and 5000 kelvin lamp for true color correction.

Bet its a billion percent upgrade from the old ones huh bro?

Big time. Its easier now. I use to hold a flash light in my mouth while I work on my bench. Now those days are over.

Looks great Az. Not sure if you tried it but Easy-Off oven cleaner works great as a degreaser. Sounds like the detergent worked well for you though. If you do try the oven cleaner get the brand name stuff. In my experience it works much better than the generic.

Not so fast there Hondo!! Azlo & you just told me what I need for my garage. Those plain old 60 watt light bulbs just don't work good for some reason. So ya see Kevin, you done good. Thanks gents.
