Re: 1968 Holiday Restoration w/pics

SO I finished riveting my gunnels so i can make brackets to support the wiring and steering cable.

MAH010243.jpg

The brackets were made out of aluminum crown and shaped them into an L and that was it.

MAH010251.jpg

After installing them they were pretty set. The weight of the wiring and cables made them solid. Will see they how they last.

MAH010252.jpg

I wish they were more jobs like this, working lying down.

MAH010253.jpg

Also installed my last gauge, a water psi gauge. Heard good things of having one of these so went ahead installed. All I need to get is the water tube and thats it.

MAH0103012.jpg

Also notice I need two more switch extensions to install.

Mr. Azlo. I have been reading this thread since yesterday and finally finished the last page. Most people would have taken it out as soon as the engine got put in. I see the quality in your patience. I can't wait to see the finished result. I believe this is one of the most complete and thorough restos on this forum. It's funny how people talk and brag about how they know this and that and did this and that to their boat. I think Mr. Azlo is a humble dude and spent a lot of time to share his build for our entertainment. Much respect.

Thanks bro. I learned from the begiining that its not the end that counts but the journey itself. So I learned to enjoy the journey like sanding , electrical, etc. I still hate those things, but I space my day during the weekends. One hour in the morning and eat breakfast, watch a little fishing tv and back out for another hour or so, and eat lunch and so and so on. I usually dont remember the hardships but I do remember the acomplishments. I also joined a great forum (iBoats rules) that has helped me a ton. Wouldnt know what to do with out it. But of all things that has made me have patience and diligence and continue is when someone comes a long and says, "man thats a nice resto", "you must have a lot of patience". Thanks th22ek9! You made my day. :)

Well Az, you given us starcraft people alot to think about and to live up to. Hopefully all will go well with my restro project, but for now I'm going to enjoy my boat then tear down and startover. The pics of the boat are great though, I think seats would hide all the beautiful work you done though. lol

As confirmed by many - There is no greater or worthwhile endeavor than restoring a 1968 Stacraft Holiday I/O !!!!

Lol I'm enjoying my project of a 1960 holiday..... it's becoming a huge learning endeavor for me.

I've gotta agree with the other guys sentiments Azlo...reading this thread it's hard to believe that you have not restored a boat prior to this one.

Top notch work and a great example of turning an old boat into a work of art.:D

Wow Az, she looks so good without seats... I'd just splash her as she is, standing room only, AFTER you get the last two switch extensions fitted! :D

I think im gonna try the white marine foldable chair then install a permanent one. I guess my reasoning is that a foldable chair u can position anywhere, if u dont have company than u only need one chair giving u more space, if u do have company than u can bring as many chairs as you need, and when u beach u can use the chair on land, sounds fair?

nice seat, hmmmm sounds like that would work unless, you hit a large wave wrong then someone is flying overboard. But then again its easier to show off all the hard work you have done that way. Couldnt do that with mine, the boys wouldnt sit still without seats. still love that seat

Re: 1968 Holiday Restoration w/pics

Well, it is now time for the out drive. The last important piece of this big puzzle. I was debating wether to get a new one for a wopping $1300 but funds are not all that available. So I decided to do with what I have right now. If u guys remember the original drive. It looks like it was at Lake Placid at some time of its life.

MAH010333.jpg

Yeah it looks pretty beat up but im sure we can pretty up a little bit. Im gonna start with the water pump impeller. SO I seperated the two halves, very simple.

MAH010334.jpg

Took the bolts off to the impeller housing.

MAH010335.jpg

MAH010336.jpg

Man this impeller took a beating.

MAH010341.jpg

And look the housing, it got so hot it bubbled. I hope this didnt mess anything else up.
