keep going man, almost they. I'll be doing my impeller probarly in in a couple of weeks(preventiv measure youknow) I will keep close attention to yours for a reference. Going to the store in the morning to find a kit for my carb. no numbers on my except for the castings. Going to be fun to find. Like your use of al when you did the floor struts back. hmmmm nice and light, makes for a faster boat and less to rot. like the idea. I think you should call your boat "gator Bit" (looks of your lower unit) lol:D:rolleyes:

Sometime they DON'T reverse themselves and WILL run in the housing in a scraping mode. Appears this happened to yours. Been Known to happen. I ALWAYS install em to DRAG!!

Thanks Woodonglass thats comforting to know. Its been bugging me a little.

I got my carb kit from napa. Give them the number and most of the time they can find it for you. U know why dont google the casting number. I think thats how I got to know that napa had it.

SO now that im ready to install my drive, I decided to pressure ttest it. Went to HF to get a vacuum pump, Autozone to get a tire valve, and west marine to get gear lube pump.

MAH010431.jpg

Hooked the vacuum pummp to the gear lube tool and you guessed it. No vacumm at all. It was loosing vacuum big time. SO I went ahead and got the tire valve & hooked it to the gear lube tool and hooked my tire inflator to it.

MAH010442.jpg

Slowly filled it to 20psi. But nothing, would not hold pressure. Except this time i could at least hear where it was escaping.

MAH010454.jpg

I grabbed some soap & sprayed.

MAH010452.jpg

Can u see the leak? The yoke shaft seal is leaking!

MAH010453.jpg

Ok so by this time I had given up and call it a day. But I decided to open it up and see, I already need a drive anyway.

After reading the manual it wasnt so bad taking it out. Actually it was easy. I was carefull not loose any shims and Im glad I recorded it in case I forget how it goes back. This is the unit on the vise.

MAH010457.jpg

supposely this gear is suppost to be pressed in but it came out by hand. I think I need to do some more reading.

MAH010458.jpg

Here it is folks, the culprit. I could actually feel the wearness of the seal when I turn it on the yoke.

MAH010451.jpg

I think im gonna get the upper seals & seal it & see if anything else goes wrong.

Way to think it through. Most of us would have missed that one for sure. That's going to be one solid boat.

Yeah a new outdrive would take all the worries of, "Where does this %#^@# extra screw go??";)Besides the rest is either new or completely redone. Your rebuilt engine would be as happy as a clam for it:D. Just eat ham sndwiches for a month or 2, thats all:p:rolleyes:

Azlo,

Any chance you need a hand one weekend? I'd like to see your project and lend a land if you need it. I actually keep my boat in mesquite.

For what the sei drives cost....I think it would be a good bang for the buck. They even have a good warranty. It would look nice hanging off the back of your newly refinished boat to....she deserves it :D.

Yeah Fellas they have a good warranty right. 3 years anything happens send it back. U cant beat that. I cant wait for it. Compare that to $2k to $3k for a new mercruiser, yikes!

Re: 1968 Holiday Restoration w/pics

Well friends im doing with what I have right now, since im saving for my drive, but things keep popping up. So with that said i had some white paint left and decided to start on my mini swim deck. The teak it had is still strong but I didnt want to keep maintaining it with oils and so.

MAH010574.jpg

SO I decided to paint it white. I didnt know that teak was so absorbent, it took 4 layers of paint! But it looks good.

MAH010584.jpg

I know I know, people are gonna say why I painted teak. Well simply im broke & thats all I have to say about that right now.

So I just bought the same year, make, model boat as yours and I am just floored. I have spent almost 3hrs reading this entire thread and I am truly impressed. Your attention to detail is amazing.

The boat I just got is 100% original. I plan to rework it this winter but, after seeing how long your build has taken maybe I am being nieve to think I can do it in one winter.

Keep up the good work!!

Thanks Freebayliner, I think one can go faster but u have to have deep pockets for it to be. If I was to do it over again I would get it running for the season and work on it on the off season. Would love to see pics of your ride man.
