I'm thinking there wasn't a single dimension missed in that spec sheet. :thumb:

The only thing of concern now is the height of the motor mount beds. Oh wait I figured that one out already... :D well at least for the Chief but I think the Holiday is the same hull.

I read a interesting form the other night on wood transoms and throwing this out to see what the experienced mass's think.:behindsofa: Instead of using two 3/4" layers of plywood, use three layers of 1/2" and laminating as described here:

- first layer laid down like normal, center axis at 90 degrees or zero degrees(depending how you see it)
- second layer is turned 12 degrees from center axis left from the first piece
- third layer will be turned 12 degrees from center axis right from the first piece (really there will be four layers, but the last layer is just the smaller square at outdrive)

it was explained how having the Grain not all running the same direction which helps with strength.
Hi 3X. I did just about that, with some variation. I used 1 sheet of 3/4" and 1 sheet of 5/8" and offset the angles of each to the maximum that a 48" sheet would allow for a 30" (?) high transom. My reasoning was the same; that not applying the grain parallel would be somewhat stronger. I made up the 1/8" shortfall in thickness by covering all sides of the plywood with Formica laminate, essentially "boxing" for strength as well as for water tightness. I also have the strength advantage of a horizontal piece of aluminum C channel across the entire width of the transom that I had previously installed as a stop-gap until I was able to replace what I saw as a rot-weakened original transom. - Grandad

yeah, I think they are the same hull..... that shouldn't be a problem on the mount beds...already got a few ideas in mind.

I am still on the fence...... I may gone on and do what I was thinking with the multi layers of plywood and turn them. it will be just another variation of how to do it.:D

BOO.......yes I'm still around and yes I still have my starcraft.....no further moment for now, it got tabled for a bit. Going to blow the cob webs off and try to start again, unless I buy the 73 searay I found on my local craigslist......needs a few comestic things and new seats......650.00 bucks, inboard v8.....šŸ˜€šŸ˜€šŸ˜€šŸ˜Ž

Who knows, I just know I miss being on the water instead of sitting next to it. More to come boys......

Ok, ok.....so big shout out to watermann for the 4.3 specs he sent me a year ago....I dug them back out of the email archive and printed it. So I went ahead and bolted my 4.3 outdrive in the transom for now and refreshed my memory of making measurements. I read somewhere today online about the cav plate being lined up with my bottom of the hull. Well it's about 3 inches higher and I'm not sure how much more in can lower my outdrive.....maybe a inch or less, but not really. Is this going to be an issue?? Cav plate being higher or should I just quit worring myself and keep moving forward. I will post some pics after a bit.

The plate being about even with the bottom of the hull is for outboards. You don't have much control over that with an IO. Just use the Mercruiser keyhole as is or a new bucket of snakes will show up.

Don't need new snakes, and for what ever reason in was having a lost brain moment.......it's not that far, it's only about 1/2 higher.......I laid my straightedge on the wrong part......😁 so false alarm, back to work

The AV plate above the prop is 3 inches higher than the bottom of the hull? We should have the same hull and all I did was make the A1 bowling pin shape out of my keyhole and move the 2 holes up and my AV plate is dead on even with the bottom of the hull.

Some pics would be great because I have no idea how your drive would be so high up.

Thanks watermann, feels good being back in the fold again. Pulled out all the old parts and did a quick mock up the other night. 3 moves since i did the tear down, im only missing the bow cap.....not sure how i lost that. A menards opened near me last year and they carry marine grade plywood for less then 70 a sheet. There has been some bad reviews up here on the acx plywood from the other places, so i figured why not.....that will be this weekend's purchase and getting myself moving again on the hoilday.
