Re: 1968 Starcraft Mariner V - Winter rebuild

Azonic,
I had the same problem with the weather and tarp. I did the same thing as the wood with 1.5 inch PVC All of the structure is outside the boat so I don't have to work around it if I want to work when its raining.
My total material cost was under $30.
I would take a pic but it's 250 miles from me right now. The lens on my camera isn't that good. :p

20% isn't really that much if you plan on keeping the boat for some time.

Most kickers I have seen are on Starboard side, including the "donor" boat i purchased for the kicker transom. Will look into pros and cons.

I agree 100% on the cost.

and I agree on what I have seen kicker wise....

Got my sample from LockDry today...

The sample I asked for was the nextdeck product...

The only real difference is it goes down like a deck does, with a small space between each board..

The LockDry actually has no space and is considered water tight...

Not a requirement for the deck if it is not wood!!

Looks like quote is going to be just under $500 with shipping...

A little higher than the wood alternative, but 100% easier in process.

I will post pictures of the material and fastners they sent...

Mount it on the port side if you want to use an EZ steer type of set up. Plus the weight will balance better if you go out alone.

Re: 1968 Starcraft Mariner V - Winter rebuild

So rethought the idea of using the nextdeck material..

Not sure I like the idea of it having the space between the boards.
Drop anything small and you have lost it to the hull... Not a good idea..

The LockDry boards would prevent that, but they are 33% more expensive.

Installed some rear strap mounts for the boat.
I had a nice set of straps from another boat, and I was tired of running a strap over the top of the boat...

So used some truck box eyes installed through two existing transom bolt holes to attatch the boat. Then I welded a couple tabs on the trailer, drilled the holes, and mounted 2 more for the trailer side...

I like these straps!

I am also trying to figure out how to mount my electric anchor winch.

I am not a fan of it just sitting on the bow. And that means I have to get creative on where to mount... possibly upside down under the bow??

But I do not want a hole in the bow all the time, since I want to make a small storage area under the bow, and be better for it not to be full of water!??!

What have you guys done on your anchor winch installs?

Mine is a Minn Kota Deckmate 35lb...

I think I am going to mount it under the gunwale port or starboard just aft of the small bow cover.

A pulley or two should make it work...

No updates for me I am afraid.

the weather went to bitter bitter cold here...

and then I am getting transfered ....

So I have to move my entire house and shop...

Find a place to move it all too...

and hope to get back on track with life soon...

any updates since your move???? After reading through your entire build I like the live well idea, remember to make round corners in your live well.... helps to keep your fish alive and water circulates better...
