I have a question, but let me give the setup first:
I just bought a 1969 Evinrude 6hp Fisherman from a guy at work today. He said it hadn't run in at least 10 years. I brought it home, threw it in a barrel full of water, and amazingly got it to run with only a few pulls. Everything seems to work OK (choke, throttle, low speed fuel mixture), but I am worried about how much water is peeing out. It seems to only be spitting water and exhaust. I expected a good, steady stream of water. It is spitting a lot of water along with lots of exhaust gases so I suppose that is why it is spitting.
Question(s):
Do 1969 6hp Evinrudes have a combined exhaust/coolant discharge stream?
Is it performing correctly or do I have a water pump issue?
This motor is new to me and I only learned the year of the motor through searching the model number (Thank you iboats).
I would hate to burn up this motor after a trip or two on the water.
Also, where is the water inlet on this motor? I bought a set of muffs intending to run the motor on the back of my boat. Only, no water when I covered what I thought was the inlet so I shut down the motor. I put it back in the barrel and water came out.
If anyone has a similar motor, any pointers would be greatly appreciated. I am so excited to finally own my first outboard, I don't want to wreck it.
Thanks
