Hi All -
I purchased this Jupiter on a trailer about a month ago for $100. The deal was that I had to take it with the trash in the hull. No problem! My plan is to re-use the seats and whatever else I can to save some money. The floor and the transom will be replaced, and the top deck repainted. I hope to be done by mid-July, as long as I can get a few hours in after work eack week. Wish me luck!

Nice find. I had a lot of fun with my Jupiter before getting two-foot-itis. :D

Nope, no outboard, but I have a 40 horse Johnson that's going on it for now. Here are a couple of pics after the "stuff" was taken out.

Re: 1969 Jupiter Rebuild

Fantastic! Where are all those $100 deals in my neck of the woods? And a trailer too? The guy I bought my SC from must have seen me coming. Actually I was sort of stuck. I'd called the guy and made an appointment to drive about 30 miles to look at it and when I pulled up, there were two other guys there looking at it who had just stopped as the were driving by, so I didn't have much wiggle room on the price. Must be something about me, same thing happened when I bought a car for my son.

Anyway, good luck, post lots of progress pics for us!

By the way, I found the canvas top and side curtains under the bow as I was cleaning the boat out. Usually someone else gets the good luck, but so far I've done OK! Here are a couple more pics - check out the repair on the floor - paneling? nailed down?

Re: 1969 Jupiter Rebuild

Another update with some new pics - got the floor out, and the windshield off so I can paint the top deck. I'm not quite sure about the color, but probably an off-white or ivory. The hull sides will stay the vintage green. I love the color - we had an 18 ft Holiday the same exact color when I was a youngster.
BTW, why did Starcraft use such long bolts to hold everything together?

Re: 1969 Jupiter Rebuild

Gonna keep the original layout for now - using it for family time together - maybe some tubing and some fishing as well. Once I get the floor back in, does anyone have some recommendations for coverings? I wanted to go with vinyl like the original, but it is pretty costly!

I haven't had a chance too work on the boat for a few days - work, and then some rain got in the way. I did find a 1973 Evinrude 65 hp to hang on the back end, though. The price was right, and it came with all the controls and cables! Should move the boat along nicely, I hope!

I'll post some new pics as soon as I get some more work done!

Re: 1969 Jupiter Rebuild

Hey pviekman, nice boat. I have one almost identical that I am trying to figure out the year on. My ownership says 1975 but it looks like they didnt make a Jupiter V that year. Wondering what your serial number is? Mine is only 6 digits: 976403 but another member thinks that the jupiters should be 7 digit with the first two representing the year. The only thing I can think of is that because my boat was destined for Canada that they may have altered the serial for that reason. Here are my pics if you'd like to have a look: http://s1121.photobucket.com/albums/l517/freedon/

If you are iffy about posting your serial on the forum perhaps you could pm me? I'd appreciate it!

Re: 1969 Jupiter Rebuild

Hey freedon, my ser # is 947637. 6 digits like yours. All my paperwork indicates 1969 for my model year, and going by the color, it seems to be the right year.

I have gotten a little more work done lately - time seems to be hard to come by as of late! The hull is all cleaned and Gluvit applied, the new floor is cut out (fits perfectly), the new transom is cut out, glued together, and resin applied(2 coats on each side, and 4 on the edges), and most of the foam cut and fit. I'll get some pictures up in the next couple days - forgive me for my rudeness! I'm using polyester resin on all the plywood - I know it's not as good as the epoxy, but it has to be better than the absence of any on the original floor and transom. I'll try to post more often - thanks for following my progress!

Re: 1969 Jupiter Rebuild

FYI, If you don't use some CSM (Chopped Strand Fiberglass Mat) with the poly resin it will crack and allow water to penetrate to the wood. 1.5oz is all you need and it is very inexpensive and easy to apply. Epoxy does NOT require mat or cloth but Poly does.;)

Thanks for the info pviekman! I'll get to the bottom of this eventually :)

Best of luck with the rest of your resto!
