1970 gulfstream makeover... Somewhat

Not too sure as the stack was up high and I only lifted the edge. I found on a quick search that the fir and the meranti both weigh 71 lbs. So that makes the decision easier.

Super stoked! Just found another place that brings in marine ply and their only like $60 something for 1/2" and 3/4". Need to go and check it out. They said that its douglas fir. At this point, it looks like thats the best for me. Its all gonna be covered. Glad the expensive one got delayed. I never knew that these places brought in marine ply. When I called around the last time I had a boat project there was only Specialty Lumber. Right On:joyous:

Well got 3-1/2" sheets and 1-3/4" sheet of the douglas fir marine ply. Only thing is that the 1/2" was warped. They stacked the wood poorly on the metal arms. What a PITA this is turning out to be. I got them anyway and was thinking if maybe I can fix them or correct the warp. I took them off the truck and stood them up and clamped them all together in hopes of unwarping them (since the 3/4" is straight). I was thinking that I could attach a ledger when I screw them together, and oppose the warp to make it straight. Anyone try anything like this to rectify warped ply? Is it worth it, or just pay more for the better stuff, and wait for it to come in. I also called Fiberglass Hawaii today, gonna be $3300 in supplies, plus shipping, OUCH!! Oh yeah, the camera is still not reading the card, trying to dry it and clean it now.

Lay some 2x'x flat on the ground, 3 then lay 1 ply on that and repeat the 2x's for ea. ply. On the top ply lay some weight on the ply evenly like buckets of sand/bags of cemnt etc
then they will flatten out.

^^^^What kcassells said is the way to do it! Then, when you do your laminating, if there is any warp left in the sheets, just oppose them and the warps will cancel each other out. (use plenty of clamps!)

I was waiting for something from NM with clampsI was also reading that they reintroduce moisture to get it right again. Then place flat and let dry watching not to over dry the other side and cause the warp to go the other way. I'm sure I'll figure it out. Mahalo all

Got the transom cut out, glued and screwed, and fitted. I used the skeleton style of small pieces of cardboard glued together with the new Dewalt glue gun. I then backed that with larger pieces of cardboard to make a complete template. It worked extremely well (thanks for pics guys on all your builds, it really helped)! I used my circ saw, jig saw, sander and grinder. I enjoy this a lot more than grinding:welcoming: Tomorrow I plan on cutting some 1/2" and glueing and screwing some stringers. Aloha:thumb:

Using all ISO resin on this build, no epoxy. Funny thing is I was gonna use VE, but the salesman talked me out of it. Glad I didn't go with it, because I would be stressing on the shelf life. Then when I ordered the other day, he was trying to talk me out of ISO and to use regular laminating. He was asking me the reasoning. So I told him that he already talked me out of VE and he won't be talking me out of ISO. On the west coast, builders like Radon and Anderson only use ISO from my knowledge, and they make great boats. Only draw back is that the ISO won't arrive on Oahu until friday, then they need to ship it over one island to me. Well, at least it'll be fresh

Yep tunas are getting away. They're starting to come around some, not as large as the big summer time ones, but ones over a hundred are around. I can't wait to finish and get back out. I know its gonna take time, and I want to do it good and right the first time around. Learned a lot from my last few projects, and yes, MAHALO for all of the help here on the forum!!!

Got the transom unscrewed. Cut the first stringer, glued and screwed it. Only had a little time so not much done, but hopefully finish gluing and screwing the others tomorrow.

Thanks WOG. Keep telling myself, every little bit brings me that much closer to the end. And that much closer to fishing. It was hard since the kids were off on winter break. I needed to spend time with them. But now they're back in school and daddy can work on the boat.

Got some time the other day to get another stringer glued and screwed. Also was able to cut the last pieces for the other stringer. Got some of those ooze holes drilled. Was I supposed to wait??? Oh well cover um in mat and redrill if anything. Pictures aren't loading, guess i'll try again tomorrow.Aloha

Looking Good!! YOu Don't have to drill OOZE holes in Every Screw Hole. I'd say a Dozen Holes is Plenty!! 4 on each side and 4 kind of in the middle. Just so you have some Fiberglass "Rivets" to Hold her in place is all that's really required. My drawing may be a bit confusing. The text says I like to drill a FEW 1/2" ooze holes. The drawing is supposed to indicated the Placement of the screws when laminating the pieces together and NOT the 1/2" holes!!! I've updated my link with this NEW picture...

Thanks WOG! I saw nursemans post and thought I would go the same route. Figured that way I'm sure that the holes are filled, as opposed to having small screw holes with voids. Anyhow, should have alot of resin coming out, encased in some nice mat and 1708.
